Wow! I was just getting ready to wipe an old PC to install a linux os and I happen to open up the browser and I clicked on Wiener Writings in my bookmarks and saw that it's back!

Haven't had a doxie in the house since Simon passed,we've had a few visitors but none of our own.Now that both the wife and I are semi retired we now have more time on our hands to be able to devote to a new family member and we actually have a doxie rescue close by and after the end of the year will be looking to adopt.

We've been seduced by the Dark Side and now have 3 cats.

Zora passed in 2017 at age 16.  Zeke passed just shy of his 17th birthday in May 2019.

We got our first cat, Minerva in September 2019.   She was a rescue, a former feral that was picked up in rural Virginia with a litter of three kittens.  The kittens were adopted out and we took Minnie.   Minnie has come a long way.   Minnie is a fluffy grey cat who is a mishmash of several different cat breeds.

We briefly had a second cat, Zeus, who we rescued from Baltimore County.  He was a TNR cat.  Unfortunately, he had a heart murmur that resulted in a sudden and unexpected passing after a few months.  Juno is your typical "cow cat"

Juno joined our family in November 2023 as a kitten.  She came out of a hoarding situation.  No idea what happened to her siblings.

Phoenix joined us in October 2024 as a kitten.  Phoenix part of a litter of 5 kittens that were surrendered to a rescue group.   We thought Phoenix was a "Phoebe" because he was so tiny and his danglies hadn't dropped.  When it came time for the spay, we learned he was a boy.  Phoenix is our mini-panther and the most sociable of the three.

Site News and Updates / Extended Outage and Forum Upgrade
« Last post by drew on May 07, 2025, 03:07:57 PM »
I'm not sure if anybody is still around, but after MANY years of being inoperable I've fixed several issues and upgraded the forum software.
I'm sure there are missing features or possibly things misconfigured. I will be workign to restore things as best as I can. If you notice anything
that is off/wrong, please let me know.

Known issues:
  * Emojis are missing/inaccessible.
  * The text input box seems to go on to infinity to the right on Edge and Firefox, not sure about Chrome.

General Writings / I have another "new one"!

I suddenly realized I didn't introduce my new girl, Torene , a chocolate/tan dapple. She is now 16 months old, and I still consider her to be a puppy, because she's a voracious chewer. So far, the count is 4 dog beds, 4 ink pens, my current top sheet has over a dozen tears, and countless pieces of paper. Her first family adopted her at a local shelter, and since her birth date is 8/22/17, I have a feeling she was born there, and also that her mother was probably adopted before she and her brother were ready or much socialized. Something traumatic probably happened to her at the shelter, because she is very anxious at sudden moves or noises, and she panics and hides when an adult male is near. Her first family never could get her to relax around the dad, and they felt so sorry she was living like this, so after a meet'n'greet here with my girls, Beth left her with me. She has begun to snuggle under the covers in the last week, and she actually climbed into my lap last week for the first time, so there is some progress.
I am continuing to offer her super tough Nylabones rather than unacceptable items to chew, so that's a work in progress, too.

Dearly loved and dearly missed. I’m sure she’s playing with Loki and all of her circus friends. She would have been 17.

General Writings / I took in 2 new ones!

Hi, all! On September 4 - the one-year anniversary of my beloved Brekke's passing, I went to visit a husband and wife who had a dachshund and a dachshund mix. A different fellow teacher told me about this couple. The wife's mother needs round-the-clock care, and they felt they were no longer spending enough quality time with the girls. As I walked back to their family room, I told them I'd sit on the floor, and proceeded to be investigated by their furkids. One is red, 7 to 8 years old, full dachshund, and now known as Mirrim. The other is black with a white streak on her chest, 5 years old, and I would say she is about 3/4 dachshund. She is now known as Lessa. After about an hour, the couple asked if I would take them and I agreed. My trunk was soon filled with all but their doghouse, which I declined. They apparently used the doghouse if they left in the evenings.                                                                                                                                                                                               Since I got them on Brekke's Bridge Day, I renamed them with characters from Anne McCaffrey's Pern novels. They learned to use the dog door in the dining room the very first evening, and a week later, when I got their nails trimmed at the vets' office(same vet!) I got them new name tags with their new names. They have adjusted very well to having an older brother, and learned their new names in 2 days. We are doing quite well, and Lessa has a lot of energy, so I took her Friday night for the walk my church sisters and I take at a local park. She seemed to really enjoy it and we did about 3 miles, which is usual.

Hi Mack!

We still poke our heads in every once in a while.   Most everyone on the WW Board has hooked up on Facebook.   I still have the Zs, although both are now quite senior:  Zora just turned 16 and Zeke is 15.   I guess Hannah and Willy are at the Bridge by now with Ivan?

Four kids?  Wow!  I remember when you and your wife had your first.    Our daughter is almost 14 now.
