My baby is hurting if we try and go without the Rimadyl. I know how hard the meds are on him,  but seeing him vomit and have accidents cause the pain is too much is worse!! I'm looking at options so I can make an informed decision about his treatment. Our vet does not believe in the surgery cause he is from the "old school " thinking and saw too many failures. I'm not real keen on surgery either,  but will consider it. So here are my questions... How do I go about finding an ivdd surgeon if needed?? Has anyone tried laser therapy or accupuncture?? Where can I find vets that do that?? I already tried google. If this round of Rimadyl doesn't work what medicine should we try instead?? Sorry for the barrage of questions,  but I'm tired of seeing my baby hurt and only make minimal progress or staying the same. Its like one day I see my spunky, happy boy and the next day he is whining and shaking in paisn. Then back to doing better again. I just want him to be happy and free of pain and the nasty medicine.   Porky is cooperating with the crate rest and no stairs rule. He even crates himself when he gets tired of walking around. He is allowed to be out in the evenings now,  but I might try going back to the 24 hour crate rest again since he seemed to improve so much faster that way. I'm just at a loss for what to do so I need ideas an options to look into. As soon as he is off Rimadyl we are trying Synaflex. Thanks for listening to me blabber, for some reason today I'm questioning everything and extra worried aabout my boy. I just want to see that tail wagging all the time again. And I miss trying to get stolen socks backand the desqueaking of toys.

I don't like Rimadyl-it's so hard on their systems.  Unfortunately, the only other thing you can do for crate rest is stop the Rimadyl for a week, and then change over to the Prednisone and Tramadol-I'm not familiar with Synaflex, so not sure if it's similar to Rimadyl?  You should be able to start the Tramadol for pain without the clear-out period, but you can't mix the Rimadyl and Prednisone and the Rimadyl takes time to get out of their system.  Keep it in mind for next time -if they try to give you Rimadyl, tell them NO, I need Prednisone instead.

Thanks for the advice. I will try and see if we can get Porky switched to something else if we have to go in again. I guess the stress of everything is just overwhelming today and I am sick of seeing him hurt. I was hoping his "swim therapy " would help,  but it just seems to make him stiff and sore the next day. He does seem to enjoy it though so I don't know.  :dontknow: We will probably looking to other veterinarians for advice if ours cant offer anything but Rimadyl as a solution. We love Doc,  but I want to try every option possible.

For pain we have used meloxicam its a anti inflam and painkiller. I do not rymadil either. Have you tried a baby pen thats what we used after a few weeks and amy was allowed some movement, I used to sit in it with her.one end had piddlepad and the rest a big soft pad.
Also try another vet they are not God's, and it is your pet. Roberta

Have you googled Rimadyl  I did when they gave it to my Jake (Bouvier) I really believe it hastened his death but that is my opinion There are other pain medicine out there just like people some can take some and some can not  I can not take some of the popular pain medicine. If your vet does not listen to you try another have you been to Dodgerslist.com that maybe a place to find answers about different pain meds, treatments, there has been some here their dogs have had surgery and had good out comes but I think they had the surgery right away so waiting may not have such a good out come hard to say.Do you have a Vet college near by they may have some treatments acupuncture is  suppose to help ? I have no personal experience so far others may have the answers you seek. Rays & Hugs to you both hope you can find help for your furkid soon.
