Mom discovered this weekend that Kirby shredded all the pillows in the kennel.  He has not been happy since King Sol is gone.  The kennel was their spot, and Kirby barks and howls and shreds stuff when he has to be in there.  Keeps me awake!
So today Mom and Dad went to work and me and Kirby got to lay on the couch!  ALL DAY.  Mom put the gate on the stairs but we got to do whatever we wanted all day!!  I tried to sleep, but Kirby (and I am younger but he is still STINKY BABY DOG cuz he acts like it) was being crazy man.  We did not have any accidents or chew anything, and Mom said we were very good boyz.  Dad said he can come home for lunch sometimes, and maybe he will set up video camera to see what we do all day.
I am liking NO JAIL, and so is SBD.

Poor Kirby!   I would have expected the he would take Sol's passing and Max's arrival as the "circle of life".   Maybe he still smells Sol scent and is trying to find him?   

I wonder if it is also possible that Kirby is not an alpha dog and the loss of his alpha is leaving him a bit bewildered.   With Rudy and Max, they both had alpha traits, so when Rudy passed, Max was not as lost.   While Rudy was the more dominant of the pair, any time Rudy was ailing, he would relinquish the alpha status, albeit temporarily, to Max, who would step up like a good second string quarterback.   When Rudy would feel like himself again, the pack order was restored.

David, you bring up some good points.  I guess we expected Kirby to step up as Alpha, he is older and this is his home turf....but he is lost without Sol.  At least as far as leadership goes.   He and Max have a great time playing, and we find it hilarious that Max has some of Sol's traits (barking at me will not make me open my eyes) LOL.  I am convinced that Max will be alpha dog when the time comes to establish hierarchy.  We shall see. 
I know King Sol is watching, probably thinking " I told ya so....he is STINKY BABY DOG"  LOL

Yes, Sue, I can just see Sol saying that! I think it has to do something with the Alpha, also. That was one of the very first things I had wondered about. Especially since you got Kirby as a pup, so Sol was always the Alpha. Still, you would think Max being on his turf would make a difference, but maybe it has to do with Max already being there for those few weeks right before Sol died. If he had arrived right after Sol was gone, then Kirby would have taken charge. In his mind, Max is just someone else that can boss him around!
At least they were good and nothing was destroyed today! Hope this good behavior continues!

Very good points about the pack dynamic.... Kirby may very well feel more comfortable when Max is able to show his alpha colors..... Any way that it goes, I can just picture The King, sitting on his throne...watching closely

Pack dynamic, we were told to let them work it out, not to fight but they would pick who was in charge of them. Emma was till she died and we still wonder who it is between Amy and OLiver.
