Hi all, Ivy has just come into season and I've been reading around about it a bit but wonder if anyone has hints and tips that might be good to know. Does anyone use little doggy pants? I suspect miss Ivy would have them of and ripped up in no time. Tris is neutered and we're going to exercise in the yard now until she's passed the season but they are so funny together just now, definitely keeping Tris young with all the wrestling and chasing lol.

Psssst Guinness I fink there's sumfing funny going on. Ivy has stopped bein mean to me and wants to play nice! I'm used to her bitin on my legs and chest all da time but jus now she jus rolls over to play when I go by.....and she smells kind of...erm....I dunno...she jus smells different. We've been playing chase all da time and she has slowed up a LOT cos I can actually catch her!! Wen she rolls over I nibble on her face, dat shows her who is boss!!!

Gail here - poor Tris has never come across another dog on heat much less had one in the house as Holly was spayed and he seems quite perplexed by it at the moment. He was neutered soon after I got him and he still wee's like a little girl.

Poor Ivy but she really have to gone through it, good thing she's just totally fine. I heard doggy pants are good but some other dogs just don't it on them..

Dog pants are a good idea you do not want the drippings all over your house, use them when you can supervise her so she will not tear them up.Of course take them off so she can do her business hope you are taking her out on a leash and staying with her at all times then I would crate her when you are not home and at night. They stay in season for about 3 weeks so you may have very determined visitors show up they will try to go under a fence over a fence will even fight you older guy.Neutered males can do the deed but are just shooting blanks.Good Luck

Thanks for that, I am keeping Ivy and Tris home for the next 3 weeks - we have plenty of room to exercise and no-one to mess with the furbabies that way. The garden is well enclosed and the fences are high enough to keep out all but the most agile big dogs. I'd been preoccupied thinking of protecting Ivy from inappropriate advances and hadn't thought of other boys picking on my Tristan!!! I'll have a nip to the petshop to see what pants they have for little girls.

Actually it was good that just last week I ordered and received a pen for the pupsters to stay in when I am out of the house. I was getting fed up of Ivy weeing and pooping at will and she is so good in the pen. It also means now that in the absence of pants Ivy is secure in one spot of the house. Neither of them seem to mind being penned while I am out of the house and it's not confined in the same way as their crate so I feel better about it than crating them - it's so hard not be a big woose when you are a loyal dachsie slave-hooman.

Was on the TV years ago a female in heat was trying to get away from two Pit Bull type dogs she went under a car.The two Pits tore the car up bit the tires, remover the front and back grills(bumpers) took the trim off the doors it was a mess.
I had an old mutt Dusty years ago the landlord of the rent house we were living at at the time asked me to keep him up his female dog was in heat i said sure.Had Dusty tied up outside for a little bit for him to do his business I went to get him to bring him back in the house he was tied up all right the landlords female came to visit him.Dusty puppies in the mix.
Sometimes females will go looking for a male too males can be very, very determined on a Bouvier rescue one time they had a half Bouvier & half Dachshund looking for a home ??? They did get a home had a picture on the web site very interesting looking dog. Be careful & good luck.Papbouv.

I posted on this around Millie's last season, but I found perfect mini dachshund sized fancy pants that work wonderfully for me.  I'll look and see if I can find the thread-I'm hoping I posted a link there.  She's due in again here in the next month or so, too, so almost time to drag mine out again.

Okay, I found it here:  http://www.wienerwritings.com/forum/index.php?topic=7522.0

The link for the ones with the bows is a few posts down.  The aqua ones work really well, but I can't find the link right now.  It'll come to me though.  It was an unusual name.
