A red smooth female in need of a vets attention.\

Had they called me and asked I would have taken her in anyway. but noooo, you thoughless azzz, you just dumped your dog on me.

a plauge on you and a curse on your home, you trash.

Needless to say I am PO'd

On a better note though, Jack has found a home, and I feel really Bless because this one is a dog person for sure, the applicants sister is a vet so it seems that he'll be well taken care of. When I interviewed her on the phone her answers just couldn't be better, I mean she sounds perfect.

oh my lord. Poor little angel! Well at least that piece of you-know-what had a brief tiny glimmer of itsy bitsy intelligence for once in their useless life, and dropped her at your place instead of in a ditch somewhere.

People are disgusting.

Yeah, I guess your right about that, but still, it would have been nice to have some history on the poor thing.

She is safe now, but now I don't feel safe or now I'm scared some azz is going to come get my dogs out of the yard cause they want a healthy one....

Good thing I have a buddy that does security systems, I see me getting  a video system now....I really didn't need the expense right now...

Well the dog got that way from them not treating her properly. I dont see why they would try for another one when that attempt obviously went so fantasticly. And really, if they were aware enough to drop the dog someplace where she would be saved and not just leaving her somewhere, they obviously have a teeeeeeeeeensey bit of compasion. I dont see them stealing your puppers.. BUT better safe then sorry.. They tattooed or chipped?

Did you say "human"? That is such a foreign concept to drop you baby into a strangers yard it has to be a different species than we are. The only redeeming quality as kslb says is they chose to drop her off with you (you must be known as the safe doxie haven there! That's a good title to hold) instead of on the side of a road somewhere. I second all your wishes for their future...she looks like a real doll and certainly has a much brighter future ahead.

I don't blame you for being worried about your own guys, I worry about that all the time too and I haven't had that happen to me. I usually go out with Hallie even though we have a 6 foot fenced yard (we unfortunately have an alley on one side which I hate) but I don't always and a couple of years ago several purebred dogs disappeared on an adjoining street even out of fenced yards so it's wise to be cautious. A security system would be a great idea. I have fake cameras and signs up all over my place but would like to get a real one.

Congrats on Jack that is great news!

Because we live in a condo, Fin is never outside the house without one of us. But he is still tattooed.. And even though its kinda pointless since he never leaves my sight, we are looking into having him chipped.

These are our babies! You can never be too careful!

The dog is not chipped, thats the first thing my vet did when I brought her in to be vetted.

Even if she was chipped, she's not going back, I named her Judy, don't ask me why I named her that It just popped in my head.

She is now Judy, DRNA dog 8163, safe and well taken care of....I'll find her a good home and until then she's the newest member of the family.

Mr. Wilson is tattoed and chipped, plus he's got that "speed bump" on his head, you can't miss that. Ms. Lucy on the other hand isn't chipped or tattoed. I guess I need to change that ehh?

Video system, here I come.

That is great news about Jack!  He is such a cutie.  No wonder he found a home quickly.

Poor little Judy looks like her trashy former owners did not take care of her at all.  What a sad little girl.  Although I know its hard on you, it was probably the best day of Judy's life when she ended up in your backyard.  It is so great of you to take her in.  I'll bet she is dying for some affection.  She'll need to learn the ropes from Ms. Lucy - Ms. Lucy can teach her all the sassy female dachsie ways.

As to those of whom we do not speak (trashy worthless pieces of %*?! who dumped her in your yard), I hope they get eaten by a pack of wild dogs.  If you need help in this regard, I happen to have a pack of wild dogs!!

What do you have tatooed on the dog and where?  Just curious.  I'm going to get Ollie microchiped.  I would be interested in the tatooing.  We have our horses freeze branded and microchipped.

Usually the inside of the back leg. They used to do it on the ears but ears can be cut off :( so they started doing it on the leg. I had my last pair tattooed because that was before microchips but now that we can do that I"ve opted to just do the chip with Hallie and not risk the tattoo (they are very safe but always that chance of infection plus at least with my two it seemed to be a bit painful). I worried about the chip too but she's had it for 7 years now and no problems.

Our fence is different hubby a welder he bought some solid steel like they make metal buildings out of had it galvanized
ran a cement curb down to the 6ft. cement wall in back. Put up the solid metal pieces down both sides made a metal gate with three slide bolt type fasteners on the inside of the gate it can not be opened from the outside only the inside.
Good fence one side is still perfect looks like it did when he first put it up.The other side the neighbors trees are messing it up really makes me mad hubby came in on our side so the trees are really on our property the only thing is we can not afford to have 4-5 trees removed + the neighbor is not very nice at all.

Nobody better be trying to cut off my doggies ear. I would kick some MAJOR @$$

Is that where Finn's tattoo is? I'm sure he isn't going to be getting stolen so he is in the clear! It was happening when the dogs were being stolen to sell to labs, so they couldn't track down the owners. There are some really horrific people in this world.

I've seen pictures of that fence Papbouv it is VERY cool. I've never seen another one like it. I hear you about the inconsiderate neighbors. This isn't as bad as what you are facing but they keep watering their lawn and letting the sprinkler soak the fence, of course THEY didn't spend a few thousand bucks and days of hard work building the darn thing so they don't care if it rots faster...grrr.

Poor Judy!   I am thankful that she got dropped at a home where she would get great care.   People are so disgusting sometimes!!

JetEd73

Well I'm happy (or sad) to announce that Judy's owner showed up at my door to claim her dog.

I think maybe I let my rescue work go to my head and assumed that the dog was dumped at my door. As they say assumptions make an azz out of you and me.....so I kinda feel like an azz, but really I did what my group trained me to do. Keep the dog safe, and seeing as how I had a "stray" dog at my door and it was during working hours, I did what I thought was best and safest for my dogs...which was take this baby to my vet.

While I was taking this dog to the vet I was on the phone with my DRNA trainer and she warned me about doing this but I did it anyway.

"Judy" was given a bath that morning and turned out loose in the yard without her collar (no chip)...being the hunting dogs that dachshunds are "Judy" went hunting  got lost and set up camp at my house, I guess she thought it was a good place because of my dogs playing in the fence.

So after work Mr. Wilson and I went swimming at the river about 7 miles away. When we came home I saw the Lady talking with my girlfriend iin the yard and my girlfriend explained the situatiuon. Of course I still had my DRNA magnetic sign on the side of the truck and they knew I did rescue work. On the bright side they agreed to pay the vetting fee and were very nice and understanding about the situation. I knew this lady had a male dog and he had wondered off once but because he had a collar and a tag I took him home.

On the bright side, I may have found a new foster in this lady, then again if she loses her own dog whats going to happen to a foster.

anyway, on one side I feel like an azz but on the other side, I also feel like I did the right thing...I mean really, what are the chances of a pure breed dachshund showing up in the yard of a Dachshund Rescue guy? I mean why wouldn't I think the dog got dumped on me?

doxielady5569128

:2funny: Oh No!!   I'm glad the owner is paying the vet bills and was understanding about the whole thing.     I'm even more thankful that Judy wasn't dumped.    Her owner needs to make sure they take more efforts to keep her from getting out!   You shouldn't feel bad, you did no harm!!

David C.

You did the right thing.   If a dachshund showed up at my doorstep, I would assume that someone was dumping it on me as well.   It seems to go along with the breed.  Once people know you own dachshunds, if any dachshunds show up loose, people naturally assume that it is yours.

I once had someone ring my doorbell at 5-something in the AM.  I didn't go to the door, but looked out a window.   The guy was holding a b/t smoothie and said "I have your dog".   I did a mental recalculation...no, all three of my dogs (at the time) were with us.   The guy went on his way with the b/t in tow.   I kept thinking this was going to make one heck of a story when I got to work.   I never got to tell the story at work, though, as the morning this happened was September 11th, 2001.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Oh my! What were the chances! That's great she has a home to go back to though. And the lady sounded nice. You did the right thing of course. I'll bet "Judy" regretted her decision to camp at your place when she ended up going to the vet though LOL. Do you know judy's real name?

How did she get inside your back yard or was she hanging around outside of the fence?

You should pat yourself on the back you did right by this little girl just glad it had a happy ending for her.

According to my fiancee the dog was sitting by the drivers side door of her car.

I guess maybe she just wanted a ride home? :2funny:
