Clifford is (again) showing signs of a pinched nerve.  His tail pulls to the right and his right hind leg draws up tight against his body.  I can easily get it to relax just by gently pulling the tail back straight.  We have a call into his vet (a former dachsie slave) about treatment.  I had just been thinking it's about time for another occurance as he has not gone more than 9 or 10 months without a back issue in 6 years now.  We don't get excited any more, just deal with them as come.  He still wants to go chase varmits and can work out the kink on his own as well.  But he looks at his leg as if to say "what are you doing!?!?".  But Clifford would appreciate some rays.

Update 10/18:  The vet has put Clifford on Dexamethasone & Methcarbomol for 2 weeks.  He'll be soooo mellow.

Rays from the Pac NW to Clifford too. My Jessie also went through an episode similar to this after her surgery at age 4, every 9 - 10 months the rest of her life. You have been the first person I've heard go through the same thing. Hugs to Clifford.

Mike,

This sounds just like Poldie's pinched nerve.  I haven't tried relieving the nerve via a tail pulling treatment.  Please tell me what you have done in the past that has helped Clifford.  We have tried several treatments and Poldie just isn't getting better.

Jeri, I've always given Clifford drugs, usually prednisone, to relieve the problem.  Right now it is not causing him major distress, but I want to stop it before it does.  When the foot and tail pull up, I gently pull them back down while sliding my hand down the right side of his spine.

The upside is I know this is not a ruptured disk as he only has 3 disks that have not been fenestrated in the 3 surgeries.  One at the base of the skull and two at the tailbone.  There's nothing that can be done for those according to the surgeon.  Of course, he was surprised and then shocked to see Clifford for the 2nd and 3rd operations.

Well, poop.  I'm sorry to read that Cliffie's on the sick list.  Somehow I missed this.  Poor guy.  But at least he's mellow--that will FORCE him to rest.  I'm sure he would appreciate some DANISH!! :hello2:  Yeah, that's it! DANISH! :hello2:

Cliffie, sure had to hear you're ailing again.  Hope the meds do the trick.  The girls told me to tell you to MILK IT for all it's worth.  Relax and take a nap under a fluffy quilt.  Maybe your dad will make some shortbread for you.

Rays headed Clifford's way.  We went through a whole bunch of these episodes with Rudy, although Rudy's pinched nerve was up in his neck.   They're definitely not fun.  Hope Clifford is back to himself soon!

Rays to Clifford from Sargey and Looie!  Here's hoping the meds keep you really mellow!

Sargey here:  Hey Clifford, can you send some of the mellow stuff to Looie?  Man, can he get hyper sometimes........actually, most of the time.....he's not Mr. Mellow, like me!   Well, bud, here's mega rays to you from Washington State!
