Willy and Alex here:  We have a barn cat named Pepper.  We show her who's boss by chasing her when we see her outside.  Mom keeps telling us that we'd better hope we don't actually ever CATCH Pepper or we might regret it.  What does she mean by that I wonder???  I don't think that cat is afraid of us cuz after we chase her onto the wood pile, and mom scolds us, she calls Pepper and Pepper always comes to mom, just a-purring away with that grin on her face.  Har-rumph

Willy here:  We had a kitty once who's name was Sam, and that cat had a lot of nerve!  He'd actually SLEEP IN MY BED and wouldn't get out no matter how loud I barked in his ear.  It was very irritating.

Kari, it was the funniest thing you ever saw.  Sam would get in Willy's bed in front of the woodstove, and it would bug Willy to no end.  He would bark and bark, right next to Sam.  Sam liked to push Willy's buttons, so he would just lay there with his eyes closed.  Then Sam would do a big stretch, open one eye and look at me as if to say "do you hear a dog barking somewhere???"  Sam would totally ignore Willy.  Alex, on the other hand, loved Sam because Sam would make a good pillow when they were laying in front of the woodstove.  Here is a picture of Alex, Sam and Misty all curled up together in one small dog bed, and one of Misty and Sam's sister, Suzy, laying on the back of the couch.

Those are the cutest pictures!! We had hoped that Tucker and Penny would get along like that...but no such luck. She thinks he makes a good toy to chase!

Willy, Alex and Misty never understood why our barn cat, Pepper, won't play with them, after living with Suzy and Sam.  We got Suzy and Sam when we still had our first three weeners - Christopher, Hasen and Harry.  Suzy and Sam would lay atop Christophers' back, they were so tiny, I could pick up both in one hand.  We bought them for $5 each at the feed store, they were in a bird cage, just a-playing and wrestling away.  So the cats grew up around the dogs, then Willy and Alex grew up around the cats, so everyone was confused and got along as a result.  Willy and Alex still try to catch Pepper when they see her outside, but they will wish they hadn't if they ever caught her, she is very street-wise and swift, and she has long claws.  She's the cat I found in downtown Anchorage when I was carriage driving, she was only about 6 months old and nothing but skin and bone, and a long fluffy tail.  She was starving.  I drove her home in my almost-new Mustang, afraid she would freak out, but all she did was curl up around my neck and look out the window.  She's grown into a lovely cat and she's a purring machine, very lovable.  It might sound cruel that she lives in our unheated barn, but she has a "house" mounted on the wall, so she is up high where she can observe things.  Its got a small opening and inside we stuffed a fleece bed and blanket.  When she hangs out in it on cold days, I reach inside and feel nothing but warmth.  She doesn't like to be indoors, she'll ocassionally go inside Dan's shop, but only for a minute, I think she feels too confined in a building.  She likes her barn with her little house, food bowl sitting on top, and the heated water bowl on the floor.
