Well, I finally got my head together and mustered up the courage to give my daughter and son-in-law 90 days notice to move.   She and I are meeting in "therapy" today at 1:30 pm and I was going to serve the notice then, with the therapist to witness.

This morning at 7:45 a.m. I let the dogs out, only to find that someone had left the gate to the dog yard open AND had left the outer gate to the property unsecured!  Thank goodness a friend had lent me a car and after 15 minutes of running up and down the streets - all of them one way and half the time going the WRONG way! - I found the little stinkers checking out the smelly but empty trash cans at the neighborhood synagogue.  And when I called them they came right away, tails wagging, just SO HAPPY to have had some "off campus" time and get treats in the bargain when they came to the car!  It goes against human nature to praise escapees, but it works every time!

So even though I had decided to give Miriam and Noah 90 days' notice, when I came home I pulled up the termination notice I had typed and changed it to 60 days.  That's the law in Maryland.  Why should I suffer an additional month?

So if you see a nuclear plume over the East Coast around 2:00 pm you'll know what it is!

Wish me luck!

Know this is very hard for you, it is best in the long run for you and for them they just may not think so at the time. I think I would be paddle locking a place for the dogs so there would be no way for them to get out unless they have help surely they would not do that to you but you never know nowdays. Then to have some back up I would take pictures of the area where the dogs will be staying until this is all over.Too bad it would be too expensive to board the dogs for awhile which would be a very safe thing to do I do wish you good luck and hope everything goes smoothly as possible for you.

Thanks.  I'm going to Chattanooga for a week, leaving the 13th and coming back the 20th so that's a help.  And I'm watching my back.

UPDATE:

Well, three of my daughters have turned on me like a pack of wolves.  But wait, that would be dissing the wolves.

Phone calls, e-mails, text messages from one daughter after another after another, today has been hell.  i've been having chest pains all day.  (No, it's not a heart attack.)  It feeels the way I did when I was in junior high and I finished the 600 yard walk/run in front of all the boys p.e. classes.  It's stress and adrenaline.

So I took two Oxycodone - move over Rush Limbaugh!  And I'm going to bed.  I'll think about it tomorrow - after all, tomorrow is another day.

I am so sorry, Karen, that you are having to deal with this.  Is there some RULE that we don't know about that says that mothers must take in HEALTHY, ABLE TO WORK, ADULT children?  I am sorry, but your lovelies are being SELFISH CHILDREN.  They need to make their own lives now and stop freeloading off of you.  Everyone deserves a happy life.  THIS MEANS YOU!

Sorry if I've offended your kids but they need to GET A LIFE!  Grrrrrrr.  Please seek legal help if you need to and don't let them threaten and bully you.

Which synagogue?  I know there's a whole clump of them up in NW Baltimore.   Glad to hear that the Herd's off-campus activities had a very quick resolution to it this time.

Hopefully, the other daughters will come to their senses soon.   In the long run, you are doing what is best for all parties involved.

I happened to glance at a Dear Abby column that had a letter writer with a very similar problem. She was also beginning to feel threatened by her daughter and son-in-law. The advice was to contact the counsel on aging. It seems that once you are trying to evict them and they are fighting you on it and trying to guilt you over it, it can be considered a form of elder-abuse. You don't have to be super old for elder abuse to occur. I wouldn't have thought of the Counsel on Aging myself, but it's not a bad idea if you need advice. Apparently they frown upon grown children taking advantage of their parents!

Now don't be shy Sandi, tell us how you REALLY feel!  LOL!

In the movie "The Talented Mr. Ripley" the father of the young ne'er-do-well cad says, "They sa you can't choose your parents, but it also true that you can't choose your children."

WEll, my mom sez:  Monkey throw crap; if you don't want crap thrown at you, get away from the monkeys.   You do not need to read e-mails or even speak with anyone on the phone.
You owe them NOTHING.

Well, I agree with the good Book: "Raise up a child in the way (s)he should go, and when (s)he is older, (s)he will not depart from it."  So if you raised your children like you are raising your puppers - and we know you are, and therefore must have, then it truly is time for her to depart!!!  Go, Karen! :apls:
