Charlie

Charlie has been acting odd for about a week.  He has a vet appointment on Monday afternoon.  When I took him outside this afternoon to potty, he seemed a bit wobbly when he squatted to poop.  When we go to the porch steps he wouldn't go up them and just turned and looked at me as if to say, "mum, I need to be carried up."  He doesn't seem to be in pain.  Regardless he'll remain crated between now and his vet appointment.

He dealt with back problems in the fall of '05 and we were able to work through them with a lot of TLC, patience, lack of bowel/bladder control, crate hours, and prednisone.  I'm not sure what the vet will tell me.  Charlie will be six years-old in May.     I hope this is something that is being caught early enough (as last time his hind legs gave out) and can be worked through without any major treatments.

Sending lots of prayers and rays for Charlie.  I'm a firm believer in crate rest... crate rest... crate rest, so Kudos to you!  Hopefully rest and maybe some medicine therapy will prevent a full blown attack.
Please keep us posted!

I really hope you are able to heal his back with just rest and medicine!   :xfinger: Nothing is worse than seeing those sad eyes that say "help me, I can't climb the steps anymore."  :sad7:

Charlie's visit with the vet was painless as the vet commented that he still had good muscle tone, despite his hind legs not working.  He's now on a regiment of prednisone along with a muscle relaxant to see if this issue can be fixed with medications.  He'll be crated of course and I know he won't like that.  It's what's best for him though.  When this occurred in SEP '05, it took about 3-weeks for Charlie to be back to normal after his course of medications.  I'm hoping it won't be that long this time.

Does anyone have any opinion on this type of cart offered on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300056858891&ssPageName=MERCOSI_VI_ROSI_PR4_PCN_BIX_Stores&refitem=300069788789&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&refwidgettype=osi_widget)?  In googling carts, this looks as if it'd be the most comfortable.

The prednisone hasn't done anything this time around and the vet put him on a stronger steroid yesterday.  We'll see what happens.
