So I'm sure most of you at some point (or at least I'm hoping) Have dealt with this little issue I'm having.

I have a fenced in pen for my little baby for him to play and potty. There's a certain spot in the pen he likes to do his "business", and I've noticed sometimes, if he's not careful, he tends to step in it (his pen is cleaned out all the time btw). My issue is after wiping, and bathing his paws, how do you get the " poopy paws" smell off the paws?

I know this is a weird/gross question to ask. But hey, we are all dog moms/dads here, right?

Mike

I can't help with the poopy paws odor.  But in case you become alarmed if you notice his feet smell like Frito's, that is normal for dachshunds.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

You need to soak his paws, and soap them up if you want them really clean. I would try and get him out before he takes care of his business in the pen, and try and keep that pen spotless at all times. I wash the pen down with stuff you get at the pet store that is supposed to erase the "pee" smell.
My little guy was raised in a dirty pen before we got him (7 months), and even 5 years later he is very comfortable in filth. I wash his bed and blanket every day, and he still sometimes soils it and sleeps in it. He gets a lot of baths.

Welcome!  What's your baby's name?  Do you have a mini or standard or?  My little ol' lady has the run of the place while we're at work......but doesn't move the whole time we're gone.  I can count on finding her under the same quilt when I come home for lunch.    So I'm not much of a help.  I could have asked a similar question when I had my Dolly and Madison girls, only it would have been, how do you get the poop smell out of their breath after they've eaten each others poo?  They were charter members of P.E.A.-Poo Eaters Anonymous.  We only are a single dachshund family now and the princess' name is Bonnie.  She is 14 and a b/t shorthair mini.

My pair and previous monsters have all been free in the house with a doggy door. But as we live in the bush (out of town) its horse cow etc, they only get their feet washed if I can see it hanging from any part of the body. Their bed blankies etc get done weekly and their bed sheet everyother day. I don't think it would be togood for their feet to be constantly damp, may cause more problems. Plus you will find the hair between pads etc is very water proof, of which I trim flat to the pads as they skid on tiles.

Well the pen is outside and is grass and dirt. Its mainly for him to potty in, but he sometimes decides to play in there too. He is a fourteen year old tweenie weenie, named Simon.  He also sleeps in bed, under the covers with me. So I wipe paws off a lot. However the wipes and a paw bath in his dog shampoo is no longer taking the smell off to return them to Frito feet.

Thanks, Simon's. Mommy

For the  P.E.A.-Poo Eaters Anonymous I suggest Pineapple for all who poo. For the feet might try baby wipes with the Alo Vera in it.Hope it helps.

Try baby wipes. Like the ones they use to clean baby bottoms.

Are you sure it's his feet?  Maybe he needs his anal gland expressed?

Brekkesmom

After you clean his paws, are you smelling a tuna-like odor?  As JetEd says. that could very well be plugged anal sacs- when my four were younger, it was not a problem, but especially in Brekke (my longhair), as she gets older, she is less likely to empty those glands as she poops, so..."eau de tuna".  She had full sacs at her October annual physical, and then at the grooming salon a couple of weeks ago, full again.  I have tried to do it myself, but  I do not seem to have the knack.  Welcome to the WW!

Oh I'm sure it's his paws. I've wiped the poop out between his toes and fur, and the poop smell remains. I tend to sleep with a paw up my noes, so I am pretty sure the location of the smell. lol

I'll try baby wipes, thanks.
