Been a long time since I was here, wow the changes!

Of course the post is about Dixie , who has four less teeth, and for the last three days runny stool.
Is there a kibble that will help her digestion?  HELP.

Please contact her vet.  In the mean time - feed her very bland food - such as rice.   There may be more going on than you know - your vet needs to look at her.  Please let us know -

Boiled rice and/or boiled chicken and /ground beef, boiled with rice.  But small dogs like dachshunds can go south quickly from lack of fluids.  Take up all food and water first, take her to the vet, then use the boiled rice combos or special bland food from the vet to get her back on track.  An older small dog, call the vet first!  Good luck and here is hoping she is better soon!  Dottie

This may be a dumb idea--CHECK WITH THE VET, FIRST!!

Years ago, I had the flu--like royal.  To avoid the emergency room, my mom at the doctor's advice finely grated a large bowl of carrots and boiled them down into a mush.  I ate the whole bowl full, and it went away.  Granted, Dachshunds probably don't like carrots, but if there was something to mix it with, who knows?  Wish you the best--it's not easy.

Wow,  Dixie is 11 1/2 now?   I guess that makes sense.  Max is now 17.   Rudy went to the Bridge last June.

I would definitely get her checked out.  It sounds like she scavanged something.   The vet will probably put her on a sulfa drug like Metraozinadole or Sulfazaladimine.   Powerful stuff, it clears up the runny poops very quickly.   Rudy & Max used to get tummy troubles so often that the vet started prescribing it to me without even seeing them.

Unfortunately as our pups get older, their "iron guts" aren't quite as strong as they used to be.

Dachshunds not like carrots?  Don't say that around Clifford.  He'll run up your leg to get a carrot.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Sending rays for Dixie.  Maybe she "picked" something up in the yard (they eat the darndest things) and that is what is causing it?  Best to let the vet check her out.

Mine get carrots every day.  I get the bags of match stick carrots (I draw the line at standing there and grating them myself) and add them to the evening kibble.  They never leave a spot of orange in the dishes.  I get barked at if I snitch one from the bag.

How is Dixie?  Did you take her to the vet?
My little Miss eLlIe was  :sad3: for a couple of days.  When I took her to the vet she was already dehydrated and they gave her SQ Fluids (under the skin)  and Amoxicillin and Metronidazole for a week .... and put her on a bland diet.

Pat, please check in with news on Dixie.  I hope she's doing a lot better now.
