Rays Needed for da JoyDog

Joy is our 9 year old yellow lab.  She's been obese since we got her at the age of 4, even though she only eats what the vet has said is the right amount.  We took her in on Friday because she's been having a lot of problems with one of her knees.  Dr said surgery isn't really an oprion, because while one leg is healing, the other would likeley blow too.  He called again this morning and said that she has diabetes.  We will have to inject her 2x a day with insulin.  Has anyone else ever dealt with a diabetic dog?  She's our sweetie, and Bridget's surrogate mom.

We had our Silverado and kept him going for six years on insulin.  He just passed away a weekend ago.  It became a standard of our daily routine to do his injections.  For a few days after his passing, I still went to the cubboard to get his syringe ready....good luck!

Diabetes isn't fun, but it is a condition that can be treated effectively and allow for a normal quality of life.  Rays going out to you all that it gets ironed out quickly!

Joy started her insulin injections  day before yesterday, and we can already see a huge difference.  She is smiling again, and isn't even having as many problems with her arthritic knee.  I'm so thrilled.  Have to take her back to the vet in a couple of weeks to have her sugar monitored every couple of hours, but I'm sure it will be good news.  I'm so happy to have my smiley pup back!!!  Thanks for all the rays.   :thumb:
