question about standards.

Are they more difficult to care for?  I've never really been around them, only the minis and tweenies.  I've been around larger dogs (say 30+ pounds) and they tend to be more difficult to care for simply because of the size. 

I was thinking that maybe sometime in the future when I get another dachsie, I might get a standard instead of a small mini/tweenie.  I would definitely rescue, but was just curious about the "care & feeding". LOL

Not really harder to care for. Just a little stronger and they are heavier to pick up. And of course they eat a little more.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay stronger.  If ya have any arthritis in yer hands or shoulders and you holding the leash of a focused--"gonna kill dat wabbit"--standard, you will know it.

On the other hand, a certain B&T at my house keeps me really snuggly warm at nap time!

Don't know......but all the standard wire males that I have met have been the biggest, lovable gallumpkers you ever saw.  I hope to rescue a big guy someday.

Our Archie weighed 34 lbs (45 lbs when we rescued him!).  He was the sweetest, most easy going guy.  He was heavier to pick up, but 34 pounds is not all that difficult to manage once you get used to it.  He ate a bit more, about 1 1/2 times as much as our 16-18 lb Leopold or Skeeter.  I loved him so very much.  He was such a sweetheart and stole everyone's heart.  He was the perfect dog for me.  I wanted another standard, but had trouble finding one.  Best of luck in your search!
