Lily went down yesterday morning.  She couldn't walk and was shaking like a leaf.  I called her vet and he said to take her to the emergency hospital, so I did and they did an exam and told me to take her to Texas A&M College of Vet Medicine ASAP.  She had some mobility in her back legs and was feeling pain, so they wanted to treat her right away before it got worse.  They sedated her and called ahead so they would be expecting us.  The vet said if it were her dog, that was where she would want her treated.  I had heard good things about them, so we set off for the two hour drive.  When we got there, they took her in immediately and the surgeon that does their back surgeries was there to do another doxie, so he was able to take a look at her.  They did the mylogram (sp?) and saw that she did need surgery, so he was able to do it after he finished the other one.  While I was waiting, three more doxies came in, two needing back surgery and one with liver problems.  They decided it was dachshund day at the hospital.  Then later, a Corgi came in and it needed back surgery.  Poor Dr. Smith came in to do one back surgery and ended up doing five.  I was glad we were second in line.  He was warmed up, but not tired.  I left College Station (where A&M is) and drove home after they told me she was out of surgery and did great.  She was coming out of the anethesia and was doing fine.  I went home and they called me later to let me know that she was awake and doing great.  I talked to Dr. Smith this morning and she was standing on her own and taken two steps and had gone pee-pee on her own.  Dr. Smith said she was doing remarkably well and they wanted to keep her for three days because they like to do physical therapy with the back surgery dogs.  They will call me daily and encouraged me to call anytime I want for an update.  They said I can come visit her, but it would kill me to see her and then have to leave her again.  I know she is in good hands.  Any spare rays for her continued recovery would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Sending rays that Lily will continue to get better.  Sounds like she is in great hands, and that she's going to make a speedy recovery.

Oh Nikki, so sorry you have to go thru this.  Poor little Lily.  So glad your Vet school is so good.  Know you are in my thoughts.  Boulder rayz on their way.

Loads of rays coming from us here in SLO, CA.  That's GREAT that she's walking already and doing her peepee jobs.  Keep us updated and I'm sending extra hugs for Max, Gabbe and Minna too.  They're prolly wondering where their bouncy sissy went to.

Rays are coming for Lily to get better ASAP!  She is a lucky girl to get the care she got as quickly as she did.  It's wonderful she's able to stand and take a few steps and especially that she's able to pee on her own.  That's great!  Please keep us updated on her. {{HUGS}} to you for everything!

Oh Nikki - bless your heart - Lily and your dad.  Sending rays for both in full force and for you and your mom - hang in there and keep us updated on both.   Has Lily had any problems in the past?  How old is she?  Hugs to you  :comfort:

She had a slight problem last summer that was treated with steriods and crate rest and she did great.  She is 5 1/2.  Thanks for the rays and congrats on your news.  I tried to call you the other day, but didn't leave a message.  Hope things are still going well for you.  Give Brandy and Rudy hugs and belly rubs from me.

Oh Nikki!   I'm so sorry to hear that Lily needed surgery, but I am glad to hear that she is doing so well already.  It sounds like she is speedily on her way to a full recovery.

Feel free to email me if there is anything  you think I might be able to give input on....I apologize I'm not getting on the board as much as I'd like these days.

Mega prayers and rays on the way!
