Well, despite all the meds and soaks and wraps, unfortunately it is not getting better and is, in fact, very nasty looking.  I will be making a phone call to schedule the amputation.  In preparation I ordered a new cone that well extends past her snout so the Houdini hopefully won't be able to get to the stitches.  Here's the link or picture---if it comes up----of what I ordered.        http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Cone-300000784-Medium/dp/B0066MJQGU

What I like about this cone is it has "boning" that makes it sturdy but not so rigid that it hurts.  I did get a medium because the cone length is longer than the small.  I was afraid the small one would still allow her to reach around and get to the incision.  Also the way you close it is all velcro so you can custom adjust the size.

ALSO found these from Paw Flex, the mitts and cover.  http://www.pawflex.com/our-products/

What I've read is apparently this is, while not minor surgery, it isn't the big deal that my mind is telling me.  The bottom line is, we must do this or she's really going to get sick.  I'll update when the procedure is over with and she'd home again.  Probably 2 week recovery.

As for my health, I am now on 2 weeks of leave.  Come to find out, I don't have Sciatica after all but rather something going on with my hip.  AND the pain in my shoulder is back, so off for hip and shoulder x-ray on Monday.

Miss Bonnie has been so sweet and brave through all this.  Rarely does she whimper or whine.  She's my tough little cookie, that's for sure.

Hope everyone has a good day and great weekend.

Rays & Hugs to Miss Bonnie for up coming surgery, any infection in the bone is not good hope the new cone will help her since it is soft I would put it on and just leave it on. Know how sneaky they can be they think they know more than us humans. Sorry to hear of your hip problem wishing you Hugs & Rays too with your hip.

Merion

I will check Nancy might have had this done with Twinkie....But I am not sure. Will ask her tomorrow.

Thanks Merion.  I got the cone.  Didn't like it and gave it to my friend because she thought it might work for her dachsies.

We ended up going with a vet issue cone but unlike some I've had in the past with different vets, this one is somewhat clear so she can see in her peripheral.  Also, I  didn't have to buy it.  It's a loaner cone and will go back to Dr. Kevin after we're done with it.

Thanks for thinking of us.

Rays to Bonnie.

Would have loved to tried the Paw-Flex bandages last year.Simon was doing some really aggressive playing last year and broke a nail off at the base.Keeping any type of bandage on that toe was next to impossible.A better cone would have helped too.....going to bookmark those sites.

Well, the cover up bandages probably work well but I couldn't work them well with my hand/eye coordination issue.  I still have them and would try to use them again if we needed to.

The cone I ordered ended up a dud for us.  I ended up going with the vet issue which was a clear plastic and fit well.  It was also a loaner so I just returned it when we were done with it.  The one I bought I ended up giving away to my friend who has dachsies (tweenies-bigger than Bonnie).  She stated that if she need a cone that this one might serve her purpose.

Bonnie is all healed up now and feeling fabulous!  She actually went on a big walk this last week and LOVED it.  She actually MOVED instead of just standing there.  I never realized how much that toe must have been hurting her.  She's a new dog with only 3 toes on one foot.

Bonnie sez  to all the rays.
