Hi, everyone.  Brekke hasn't had much of an appetite the past 2 days, but she has eaten.  When I woke up this morning, I had to clean up some spots on the floor with some grassy pieces, but didn't think much about it.  When I got home from church, Brekke was very thirsty, and I filled the water bowls.  I heard a dog drinking, and then I found a bit of diarrhea on a throw rug in the hall bath, and I saw her throw up the water - in about 5 spots.  I checked on line for her symptons, called the vet, took her in.  She threw up in her crate on the way, but when we got to the vet's, she gave him attitude and sneered at him because he wanted to look at her gums.  They were pink and healthy looking, so he took her in back for bloodwork and x-rays.  The x-rays were fine - no blockages, but he's keeping her overnight on an iv drip, and we are awaiting the blood test results.  Then, when I got home to feed the other three, Bastian was the only one who wanted to eat, so there are still 2 puny dogs at home - who keep looking for Brekke.  They wait at the door to the garage, since that's where they last saw her.

We are so sorry to hear this and hope the blood results come back quickly today with only good news.  Are the other three eating well today? Must have been hard for you to sleep too.  I hate having to leave one of them at the vets and know how unbearable the waiting is.

Red had terrible explosive squirts and vomiting and was horribly close to not making it in July and had to be kept on a drip for six days and two weeks of antibiotics thereafter.  He is still on Ursuchol ( human gall bladder medicine) to get his GPT down but is feeling perky again. None of the tests showed any specific infection so we still do not know what caused it all  which bugs me.  Islay was absolutely fine.

Pawsies crossed for good news and lots of rays coming your way.

Many rays for Brekke...and Red too !!!  The runny poos and throwing up are no fun, AND scary.

Rudy went through a bought a couple months ago.....was on 2 rounds of antibiotics and specia prescription food.  I have tried to switch him back to his kibble twice (slowly changing), but the poos have come back.  So I guess he will be on special canned food from now on. He doesn't mind.    I now keep some GI meds and some stop diarreah meds from the vet, and start them right away.

Its scary, because so often you don't know if it something they ate, something going around, or what....

anyhoo - glad Red is on the mend.....and many rays for Brekke !!!  :comfort:

Thank you for the rays - I had to take Robinton in at 1:10 this morning - same symptoms.  I was sleeping in the kitchen floor beside him, since that's where he wanted to be.  I awoke at about 1 a.m. to a bad smell - a small pool of blood, but no Robbie!  I turned off the alarm, got the flashlight, and found him unresponsive, laying in the dirt.  I had not undressed, so I gathered him into a crate and off we went.  He had the same treatment, and after being settled in, I visited with him and Brekke for a couple minutes.  Back home at 3:00, then I was awakened at 5:43 by the sound of a truck motor at the grocery behind me, followed an hour later by Rowan vomiting grass, and a bit of canned food from Saturday night's dinner, and another truck.  I got a call from the vet's, and Dr. Dhaliwahl suggested I bring in the other two for testing, so I told her Rowan had thrown up.  I called the "rat patrol" lady and asked her to remove the trap, since we didn't know what was going on.  I took Rowan and Bastian in shortly after that.  He was fine, and she had a bit of bloody diarrhea just before we left.  Now I have three dogs in hospital,  Brekke is recovering, and Dr. Takata said Robbie was dangerously low on panels, and he was "iffy".  Bastian and I go to the bank, and then we come home.  I got a call from the "rat patrol" lady at 11:34, who said the toxin is rat specific, and it would take about 3 weeks after ingestion of a lot of rats to get the symptoms mine had in three days.  She asked me to keep her posted. She personally thought it sounded like someone was using gopher bait, since it just kills.  Then we got the dreaded/awaited call from the vet - and Robbie is better!  Brekke could come home, but Dr. Landry thought another night for her, since she still has a touch of diarrhea.  Rowan is doing well, and we are so relieved.  Dr. Landry also thought it was NOT the rat bait, and I told him what Stephanie had said about the gopher bait.  I hope to get more than the approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes sleep I had overnight.

Deary me, you must be absolutely exhausted, here´s hoping you got some rest overnight.  It is a relief to hear they are getting better and I do wish they could find out exactly what the cause has been.  Lots of rays and hugs heading your way for quick and complete recoveries all round.

Got some sleep, and when Dr. Takata called just before 9, the girls get to come home late afternoon/early evening.  Robinton is still on iv drip, and needs to stay another night.  Much better news - and the girls will have oral vitamin K therapy, as will Robinton when he comes home.

I've just been catching up. So glad the pooches are on the mend. It's a shame there are so many toxins out there. It's also hard to know what neighbors are throwing around. I'm fortunate that most of mine are dog and cat lovers but I'm always on the lookout for something that a squirrel, racoon, skunk might carry in to my yard. Parker has been acutely ill (I think from eating duck poo) but we never really knew. Take care, and once again I am so releived the puppers are on the mend.

- just saw one of my FB friends had a dachsie sick from eating goose poo, so that is probably it.

6:08 pm - the girls are home, have been under close supervision outside, had chicken and brown rice for dinner (as did Bastian, atop a bit of kibble), and are now snoozing nearby.  Brekke has two meds for 7 days, and Rowan has 3 for 12 days.  Ah, the sound of doggy breathing in my home is nearly back to normal!  Robinton looked some better today - he lifted his head and showed some interest.  I picked up Brenda and her sister, Karen, to help with transport, so they got to visit with Robbie, too.

Oh my gosh, what a dreadful few days the BKFD crew have had.  It's good to see the happy ending but it would be good now what caused all this.  Sending some rays the improvements continue.

I always have a flashlight with me for the after dark walks with Duncan.  He is notorious about eating "things" and the hug-a-dox harness is great for suddenly making him airborn as he lunges for a snack.

There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

Robbie's platelets are still low, so they are keeping him tonight.  He has been eating chicken, and one of the techs absolutely adores him, so I know he is getting loved on, some extra.  He still has mild diarrhea, but is more alert - lifting his head and has more of a spark in his eyes.  Dr. Takata said the blood tests she sent off yesterday were the same results - she was thinking that maybe their machine needed re-calibration, but no.

Bastian doesn't seen too disappointed in continuing to get a little chicken and brown rice on his kibble tonight...

Thanks again for all the rays - they have surely put Robinton on the way to recovery, and helped the girls be able to return home!

9/20 update - Robbie and I arrived home at 11:44 - minutes before my cousin and her husband arrived.  They are from Georgia.  You would not believe how much the boys enjoyed Linda & Mark's visit - he gives great belly rubs, apparently!  Robbie has 4 meds to take.  One has to be given 2 hours before the others, and it's a pill, to be dissolved in 5 ml of water and given orally by syringe.  All 3 take their pills from my hand with some chicken and rice!  :thumb:

So glad to hear that all are doing better.  I've been in Tennessee getting my house ready to be sold.  It took me 2 1/2 weeks to go through the house and throw out junk and keep the things I wanted, and I did not have my computer and am just now trying to get caught up on things that is why I'm so late in responding.

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.
