Until recently, Zora has had a nearly flawless record when it came to housebreaking.   In five years, she only had 1 accident in the house.   Recently, though, she has started to poop in the house.   I don't see anything physically wrong with her, and her appetite is her normal "eat anything that isn't moving".   I'm really scratching my head on this one.    Her nose was dry this evening, so I'm wondering if something is bothering her.   I also wonder if there is something going on in her dachsie brain.   I know that Rudy & Max would poop in the house if they were separated from each other...kind of a separation anxiety.   Anyone else have this?

Zeke has recovered well from his pancreatitis and is actually putting on weight...something I've been trying to get him to do all along as he has been a bit underweight.   Zeke has consistently tipped the scales around 15 pounds, but he looks like he should be closer to 18 pounds on his frame.   Zeke doesn't have Zora's stellar housebreaking record, but he's awfully good for a dachshund.  He has never pooped in the house, but he has tried to sneak away and pee in our downstairs (succeeding more often than we'd like).

Both have different behaviors when going to the bathroom outside.   Zeke will always pee first, then poop.  Zora poops first and sometimes will hold her pee for the next outing.

Patches also poops first then pees something I had never seen in a dog before.Have you checked her anal glands ? Does seem odd she would start pooping in the house when she usually does not do it if it was peeing in the house might see if she had a UTI. Might talk to her vet maybe they might have an idea also if you have a back problem sometimes that can make incontinence ???? Just throwing ideas out I found out long ago if dog people talk to each other sometimes we hit on something the other person had not thought about.Good Luck please let us know if you find out the problem. papbouv

Dr. Beau Leaky

:thinik: I know that Corky, our golden lab had hip dysplasia, and as it worsened, he became urine-incontinent. Once he became feces-incontinent, we had to put him down, as he could no longer walk more than a step or two without his butt keeling over, and the vet said the nerve damage was irreversible and the end was coming.

 Guinness is not housebroken - ever since his time in "The Big House" (thank you, G-d, for Mitt Romney and the Republican clown show).

You know all about the Marks Brothers - hey, that's a perfect name for them!

Vet seems to think it may be due to a UTI.  We're going to bring her in Thursday AM.

Please have the vet explain why pooping would be from a UTI  I'm interested because I have never heard that before this is very interesting in a educational way is the reason I'm asking. I like to learn all I can so in the future if some one asks I can relay to others. Since out Fur Kids cannot talk it is hard to figure them out sometimes thats another reason us Fur Kid parent have to stay together and talk to each other.Too bad the Fur Kids can't talk sometimes other times it would be terrible if they could. Thanks

The verdict is pancreatitis.   Poor girl was being a lot more stoic about it than Zeke.

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

Zora's reaction to the meds was almost immediate.   She will be on the meds and a special diet for the next few days.  Zora is back to her old self, including resuming her usually impeccable housebreaking habits.
