Good morning, wiener moms and dads,
Yesterday afternoon, I returned home from shopping for the boys' Hund'n'Flokken (the girls get Wee Bits), some canned Merrick food, and my much-needed peanut butter (stock up if you know what happened to the peanut crop!), and let the dachsies out, suddenly there was some frantic scrambling by the lime tree.  Bastian dropped it on command (he is getting sooo good at pleasing Mom) and I saw an injured rat.  I was too far from the shovel, so I picked him up, hoping the other three wouldn't notice.  As I grabbed the shovel, Brekke grabbed it.  I got her to drop it (wow - another surprise!) and Bastian had it again.  He dropped it when I told him, and I finally managed to get it in the shovel.  As I normally do, I heaved it over the fence, into the grocery store's parking lot.  I know that's not really proper, but I never had rats until that store went in about three years ago, so I figure they can deal with the carcass.  So, the score is now: birds - 0, dachsies - 2; rabbits - 0, Brekke - 1; and rats - 0, dachsies - 10.  :eeew:

Wow, way to go!!  A WWF (Wiener Writings Federation) tag team match victory and championship belts to Bastian and Brekke.
There's nothing like having a dachshund tongue up your nose at 3 a.m.

I don't remember that Hungarian word for dachshund, but it translates into English as "Rat Catcher".    Sounds like your pack would make a lot of Hungarians very proud!

Well, in the hope of thinking the lime tree has been attracting the rodents - and since it has cross-fertilized with the lemon tree next door and has produced nothing edible in over a year - I had it cut down yesterday.  My contractor says any fruit tree can be used for a sweet-smelling fire.  I have some nice firewood, but I also get way too many "no-burn" days - which is why my parents' housewarming gift to me in 1993 included a gas line to the fireplace and some very realistic-looking birch logs for my gas burning fireplace.  Anybody close by want some firewood?
