I was brushing Porky's teeth a few days ago and found he has two pretty nasty looking teeth.    :doah: His teeth are brushed at least 3 times a week, and some weeks daily, so I guess we will have to take him in and see if they can be saved or need pulled.  Poor little guy, they don't seem to be causing him pain, but his breath sure stinks!!  I did some looking and found out all his brothers and his sister have lost most of their teeth. So I'm thinking its more a genetic issue than me not keeping them clean. So, after hearing that, he is getting the teeth brushing and flossing daily with an additive in his water to prevent plaque buildup and tooth decay.  I hope i can get him to 10 years old with all his teeth.  His siblings all got their first tooth pulled at age 2, so I guess we aren't doing too bad.  His sister also has very bad allergies, but all the brothers seem okay, minus the occassional itchies.  If Porky's breeder were still in business I would definitely be mentioning it to her prospective buyers that allergies and teeth problems seem to be an issue.

Porky's allergies have been horrible this year and nothing seems to help him anymore.  It has become a "normal" thing for us to find little "snot balls" around where he has been sneezing or wheezing. Very gross!!  Our vet does not want him on any of the harsher allergy medications so we just started Zyrtec for now.  Hope it works!!!

I think it's more the breed. Parker had 8 teeth pulled for his third birthday. I brush his teeth as well. I'm almost tempted to tell the vet to pull them all, and be done with it but I won't. Parker doesn't seem to miss his teeth. He recovered very quickly.
Take care......Kelly

Thanks everyone!!  We won't be able to have the dental done for a few weeks so I took Porky in to have the vet look.  He was willing to do it right away and let us make payments to him, but after looking at the teeth, he said they aren't causing pain that he could tell and a few weeks would not make a difference as long as I was dilligent with the tooth brushing.   He did say they probably are too far gone to save, but he was going to better evaluate them after cleaning them and taking radiographs.   Thanks for the rays and we'll keep you posted on what happens.
