I've been taking Schatzi to Furman University to walk around their beautiful lake. We usually go with her buddy Murphy and his mom. She was exhausted the first time, but did much better last night. We often see other doxies there. Both Lou Ann and I laugh since Schatzi seems to immediately know they are like her. She will literally pull me to them when she sees them. She gets excited about other dogs, but the doxies are different. It is just so interesting to watch this happen. Does anyone else have a doxie that seems to recognize others of the same breed?

Every dachshie I've owned seems to have the "dachsie ID" gene.   They get very happy when they see another dachshund.   Sometimes, though, they get similarly enthusiastic for Bassett Hounds, kind of like "well you look like us, but you're not exactly like us".   When Rudy-angel was a pup, he approached a female bassett with that "are you my mother?" enthusiasm.

We don't come across true standard dachshunds very often, but when we do, my puppers always seem impressed by their size.  I recall Rudy & Max checking out a standard on the C&O Canal, and they just kept looking at him from head to tail with that "wow, how did you get so big?" look.   Back at the '99 Bow Wow, we also saw some "monster dachshunds", a group of standards in an X-pen that were in the 35 to 39 pound range (And one runt that was a mere 16 pounds).   All 11 pounds of Max charged right up to them like he was boss.   Talk about a Napoleon complex!

I've always said dachshunds are breed snobs-they prefer their own kind.  Winston absolutely refuses to accept wires as part of the dachshund clan though-he growls at them anytime he sees them.  It's weird, but maybe because I don't have one?

Parker definately recognises his own breed. Perhaps because that's all he seen for the first 7 months. He also seems to have a "girl friend" - that is his breed, and he searchs the puppy park and keeps an eye on the entrance in case she comes. He doesn't let other near her if she's there. It's kind of funny to watch his "courting". What's interesting is I don't think this gal is a pure breed, and she's really chubby, and not what you would describe as a perfect example of the breed.
dis is Parker: my gwrl frend is perfect, and she likes me, and I lub her.

Patches knows other Doxies tries to talk to them last time we went to the park their was a black & tan smooth fluffy Doxie she tried to talk to it.When she sees other breeds she does not talk that much.She was curious when she saw a Basset hound but not very talkative to it.

Mine do !!!  They seem to go on the defensive more with other breeds, but with doxies, it is normally the Big.Tail.Wag !!!

When my family and I go to the Midwest Dachshie Fest the second Saturday in Sept the ".DACHSHIES" are fine with each other but let another dog breed come on the picnic grounds every dachshie there goes nuts barking their heads off!

Isn't funny how that is?  We go to a Dachsie Meetup every month and it's funny how all the Wieners get along....well, pretty okay anyway....but have a big dog come near the little badger hunters and they all go wild and will chase off the interloper. 

Bonnie is kind of a loner.  We always say, "Ya wanna go see your friends?  Oh, sorry.  Forgot.  Bonnie doesn't have friends."  Not that she's nasty or anything.  She really isn't but bring in another breed and she gets very alpha and will usually air snap (if we're not quick enough to stop her) at another breed.  Once she's done that, she's fine.  The only exception to that is Audrey the King Charles across the street.  I think Bonnie thinks Audrey is just a funny looking dachshund because she's black and tan.
