A few weeks ago, Duggie decided to become an incorrigible doxie........Each day, the boys each get their bowl with kibble.  Each has their own bowl with a small amount of kibble.  Duggie has decided that he wants to be known as pigpen, and because of that, he will tip his bowl over and eat his kibble off the floor rather than from the bowl.  We can tell him no when we see what he is getting ready to do and he looks at us and with the doxie look, does it anyway!  Sarge is a gentleman and will eat his from his bowl.  Sarge looks at Duggie in disgust.  This morning I got a short video of Duggie in the act.  After he tipped it over and the kibble out, he inhaled a piece and did a slight cough to dislodge the piece he inhaled in his hurry to start eating.  The second video is of him just sitting there and eating his food........

Duggie!  Don't show Bonnie what you do.  She already takes food out of her dish (sometimes) and takes it up on the couch.  Little boy, you are soooo funny! :2funny:

Too funny !!!!  Maybe he wants to spread them out so he can eat the best ones first...  :2funny:

Millie likes tipping over her bowl too.  We've resorted to feeding her in a heavy ceramic bowl with no edges for her to tip with her nose.

Soo funny!!  Porky likes to grab a mouthful, walk over to the carpet, drop it all, and then eat it one kibble at a time.   :2funny:  He also likes to fill his mouth with water and then walk all over the house with his mouthful slowly dripping a trail on the floor.

OMG!  Junie does this!  I've never seen a dog do that before.

Parker likes to be fed in the formal dining room. He won't eat kibble served in the kitchen. He noses his bowl into the dining room. I guess he has ummmmm an upscale appetite. I haave also been throwing a bit of kibble in his bed when we go out. He stopped peeing in his bed.

Schatzi always takes her kibble out of the bowl and either puts it on the floor beside it or, usually, takes it to her bed in the den. Her other favorite thing to do is take it to our bed, especially if it is at night.  Often, late at night when I have just gone to bed,  I will hear her run to the kitchen and come back to our room, up the steps to the bed and then start crunching away. Some nights I will hear her get down and go for another mouthful! Randy looked at me once and said "Midnight snack?" Of course, we often end up with a trail of a few hard pieces of kibble. Just great to step on in the mornings!

Personally, I think all these antics are just too cute for words - formal dining on kibble? Midnight snack? Eating in bed? :chairfall:

If anyone is seriously upset about your pupper's habit of taking food out of the bowl, may I suggest:

Put the kibble in the bowl one piece at a time. If your pupper takes it out and puts it on the floor, QUICKLY intercept it and put it back in the bowl. After one piece is eaten, put in another piece, etc., until dinner has been consumed. Next day try two pieces at a time. Recalcitrant pupper will get the message, if you can tough it out. :thumb:

But before you cure the habit, may we please see some video??  PLEASE????

P.S Now I just looked at Duggie's video and I have to say I agree with him -  it is positively EMBARRASSING for Ch. Tinybut mightylieutenantduggie (I think?) to be expected to eat anything out of that $.39 bowl from the Piggly Wiggly!

I recommend you visit the nearest second hand store where they often have pewter plates or platters, or 50th anniversary plates, or something pretty and cheap.

The Greenacres Military Command deserves a dining hall upgrade!  How 'bout a little class here?? :feedme:

But in our place its word association, smoked salmon. Nick has a small amount as a appitizer most nights Mac Mooooooooooooooooo has worked out "any smoked" gets Amy running and barking at Nick...................where's my bowl...........he only has to go to the fridge or get a plate out at 530pm, and she comes a dancing............

When I was a kid and we had a beagle Tunie who was a little strange.  First she was a wimp. If someone knocked on the door, she did not bark, she would go hide on the couch behind this huge stuffed dog!!
But food wise she was also strange.  Give her food, and she would immediately push her nose down the bottom of the bowl shooting at least 1/2 of it out!!  I dont remember if she then only ate the food left in the bowl or what was out of the bowl but she would only eat the food from the one place.  Worse we had this really really big popcorn bowl that we put her water in. But would she drink it.  NOOOOOO She would turn around and sit in it, which of COURSE resulted in oodles of water all over the floor after she tipped it over! Then at nite, when she was going to bed, she would do this circuit because we had the front hall then the hallway then the kitchen and from the kitchen the door went to the dining room and the dining room led to the living room which led to the front hall.  She would make this circuit about 5 times stopping each time to pick up ONE more dog treat in her mouth, and then when she had about 4-5 then she would head down the hallway to parents bed.   Of course the dog treats also went with her into the bed!!
