Hi.  Seeking advice from those with Boy Dogs.  Luther was our only Boy Dog and he was pure sweetness and never did anything wrong.  Miss that little guy so much.  Then we rescued Slinky and Boomer in Luther's spirit and their leg-lifting, marking thing has finally gotten to us (and our wood floors).  They think our log furniture represents Indoor Trees for them to pee on.  So I purchased Belly Bands and Slinky adjusted to it right away but Boomer is  like a bucking bronco!  His back legs and feet kick out and go up in the air and he has gotten out of the thing several times.  I don't want him to hurt himself but on the other hand, we are tired of mopping up pee.  Any suggestions out there??  They seem to not even try to lift their legs and pee on anything when they have the bands on; then of course we take them off and let them outside (when its above zero) and they pee to their hearts' content on the Outdoor Trees which are abundant in our backyard forest.  Any advice would be appreciated.

When cleaning up the area, have you used white vinegar to clean?  I don't have a problem with my boys lifting their legs on purpose, but when they have had an accident in the house, I clean it with vinegar.....they leave that area alone once it has been "vinegarized".

No offense but I think marking is a house breaking problem not a marking problem yes I have boys Buddy a 3 year old Doberman he does not mark or even hike his leg which is fine by me.Had two male Bouviers one at a time 1st one never marked 2nd one was getting ready to hike his leg to mark. I happened to walk around the cornor had a towel in my hand popped him in the butt telling him off all the way to the door. When I tell one of my dogs off they think the world is coming to an end.He never tried to mark anything again you have to be boss make them know that is not an allowed behavior in the house. I would.I'd go right back to house breaking 101 treat them like a puppy if you cannot watch them in the crate or on a lead tied to you so they cannot go off & mark. When they find out you mean business and are not going to put up with it then they can have more freedom. Freedom is a privilege not a right they have to earn it.Good Luck.

Marking and indoor pottying ARE two different behaviors in the dogs mind, however, they are dealt with in the same way.  Papbouv's suggestion of leashing the dogs to you is a good one.  It has to be made clear to the boys that marking in the house is JUST as bad as going potty in the house.  As far as the belly bands go-good luck.  Murphy still gets out of his on a regular basis, but they do get used to them.  He's just slicker than his longhaired compadre, so it's easier for him to wiggle out of it.
