An Evil Shrew has been dispatched

Greetings!
There were big goings-on at our house when we were at work last Thursday.  Normally, when we come in the door, we are greeted by Sam wanting pats and by Sophie who does a "Happy Dance" in the living room floor with her Hippo (the same hippo that she arrived with 10 years ago with DeeDee).  As usual, Sam greeted us wanting pats, but Sophie caught our eye and went to stand over something small and gray--MUCH too small to be her beloved Hippo.  We went to look, and she was guarding -- A Dead Shrew!.  We have no idea how it got in.  Rich disposed of it immediately--Sophie never wants to keep her prey, just wants to make sure that we see it.
So, even at 10, with failing eyesight, Sophie is still quite the huntress.  We did not tell her that sometimes Shrews fall dead of fright, and that you don't necessarily need to be an extremely fierce huntress to kill one.

Sam was not that interested in the Shrew.  So, I think it was Sophie's "kill".  You could tell that she was very proud of herself.  We did check both dogs over closely, just in case, but they seem to have emerged the battle unharmed.  Sophie insists that she has done the world a great good in dispatching the Shrew, she believed it to be an Evil Criminal Shrew.  At our house, this concept will be allowed to stand--Sophie may have saved our home from rampant destruction!

Way to go SOPHIE!  :thumb: I can imagine your faces when you saw what she was standing over.  I'll bet she was so proud to show you guys her catch!  Very nice of Sam to let his sister have the shrew to herself. Hallie sends a cyber high 5!
That is so sweet Sophie still loves that hippo, it boggles the mind that was 10 years ago already.

Oh, the Hippo is well-worn, and has no squeaker.  But Sophie wasn't ever real big on the squeaker part if it.  The hippo has some like-colored attachments that have become part of the Hippo as other parts fall into mere threads of their former selves.  In this way, Re-incarnating Hippo (as is his full name) will never completely die.  We used to play a game where I would have the Hippo put up a real fight (with growling and sound effects), die, and then re-incarnate when Sophie least expected it--oh, the excitement!  Attack! Attack!  It's dead! No it's NOT!  But as she's grown older, she just mostly wants to do her happy dance with Hippo.  But she will always have the Hippo, no matter how much mending is needed.  It's the only toy she "looks" for.

And, DeeDee, there's no "nice" about it.  Sam cannot have the shrew unless Sophie decides to LET him.  Yes, the little RED dog is still the boss!

Strudel is the Bird Huntress.  I'll never forget the time she came waltzing in the house with a bird the size of her whole body in her mouth.  I think they could hear me 10 miles away!

Miss Sophie, can you send me a box of Shews so that I can kilt them?  I am a very good huntress just like my sissies (gone now) Dolly and Madderoo.

Mommy???  What is a Shew???

That's Shrew, sweetheart.

Well, what is it?

I haven't the faintest idea.  Maybe like a hedgehog or a mole?  I don't think we have them her in CA.

Can you mail order me some then?

Not today, Lovey.

OOh.  I'm not sure if I'd recognize a shrew.  My dogs seem interested in slightly bigger prey though-squirrels, ground hogs and skunks are their favorite targets.

Clifford caught 2 shrews in the yard.  He quickly lost interest when they refused to get up and continue playing with him.  It might have been the all the little punctures....

LOL that is so cute, I wonder if that reincarnating worn out parts thing can work on people too?

Sophie still reigns!  :hello2: I remember when I had her and Hallie and the little boy and I would separate them to feed them, I had Hallie in a crate and Sophie loose and they were eating, I walked into the room and there was Sophie standing at the corner (on the outside) of Hallie's crate where her dog food bowl was (with food in it), with Hallie inside with the food bowl, and Sophie was just growling verrrrry low and quiet. Hallie was standing at the back of the crate avoiding eye contact. LOL! Sophie the tiniest definitely ruled the three but with a gentle yet definite paw.

That little shrew is ADORABLE!!! Look at that little face! Oooh can't stand to think of anyone hurting one they are like fuzzy little babies!

DD, don't let that little fuzzy face fool you.  I've read that ounce for ounce shrews are one of the fiercest animals on the planet.

Way to go, Sophie.  (Do they fly over the fence, like at our house?)

It's all right, Auntie Kathleen, but if you ever hear your puppers say, "Kiss Me Kate"  :bkiss: they might be into "The Taming of The Shrew" :fight: :toothy1:!! :2funny:

You have to excuse Merlin. He is so easily amused!

Really! You're right that fuzzy face would fool me!

OR....did Sophie start that rumor to make her heroics seem that much larger?  :thinik:
