Hey all......the furkids along with the humans had a rough night last night/early this morning!  We had a wind storm that hit about midnight with wind gusts up to 85 miles per hour.....and then along with the wind, the rain hit hard.  About 1 a.m., we were awakened with a loud "Bzzzzzzzz" sound.  Now mind you, our heat pump has just clicked off and then we hear the sound which sounded like it was right outside our bedroom window.  Dave shouted that he thought the heat pump just "blew up".  I'm jumping out of bed and Dave and I are throwing the curtains open....well I was....and about that time we see this blue/green electrical arcing outside.  I am grabbing my robe, coat and shoes with two startled boys barking and running around and I head outside to see if indeed it was the heat pump....while my heart is in my throat and phone in my hand in case I needed to call for help.  Sarge and Duggie remained inside with Dave.  His mobility issues didn't allow him to go out and check quickly so I was the one to go.    I'm out there with the flashlight and peek around the corner where the heat pump is located.  It wasn't the heat pump and nothing had happened in our yard but something did happen just north of us across the school yard.  The wind knocked trees over which in turn hit power lines which in turn caused turmoil everywhere.  With all the rain we have had, the ground is extremely soft, and the wind just toppeled over very big and old trees....everywhere.  We were wide awake then and once I determined that it was okay for Sarge and Duggie to go out, they went out and did their business real fast......the wind really tried to blow them over!  But after the excitement in the house, they had to go pee.  We stayed up for the next three hours watching the outdoors and trees.....it finally quit blowing about 3:30/4:00 a.m.  The boys are tired today........so are their hoomans!

Remember to refer to the Canine Hurricaine Rating System:

Tropical Storm - Yorkies blown into next yard.  Mini Dachshunds lift their leg and get knocked down.

Hurricane One - Yorkies become airborne projectiles.  Mini dachshunds flatten into ditch and refuse to come.  Standards refuse to go outside.  Border collies fail to comprehend the fuss.

* Hurricane Two - Yorkies - gone.  Mini doxies - gone.  Standards - under your bed.  Border collies - trying to fetch tree limbs flying by.  Dobermans on full alert for windblown burglars.  Mastiffs sleeping.

* Hurricane Three - Yorkies - gone.  Minis - gone.  Standards, house and bed - gone.  Border collies - fetching trees becoming problematic.  Dobermans - remain on guard duty where front door used to be.  Mastiffs - still sleeping in former den.

Hurricane Four - Yorkies land in Illinois, rescued by local shelter.  Minis and standards - last seen up I-95 north of Elkton, Maryland.  Border collies - trying to herd zoo animals on loose.  Dobermans - on guard for looters at concrete foundation of former home.  Mastiffs - staying put in the former den, practicing the L@@K, "I had NOTHING to do with THIS mess!!"

Sarge and Duggie appear to have encountered either Tropical Storm or Hurricane One.  Way to go boys - in and out in a New York minute!!

We had the heavy wind in Illinois about a month ago! Our 4  little puppers didn't like the wind either! They only went out to do what was needed and head back in!

Kathleen

Goodness!  I'm very glad to hear you're all safe-you get some doozy weather where you are!

Roberta

That was a bumpy night. We have high winds just because we live on top of a hill, but about two weeks ago it got up in the middle of the night and we swore the front half of the house must be gone, plantpots everything on the verandah was stuck to  the back fence.
Glad to hear you all are OK.

Don't you just love winter!  :doah: Glad it wasn't your heat pump or anything else that you'd have to get fixed, scary stuff though. We had strong winds over here too all night then Hallie woke me up this morning and we had an earthquake to boot. There were two, first one smaller than the 2nd and they say they weren't related?? Did your power go out? My lights flickered but was ok but there were hundreds without power today my brothers was out for 20 hours.

Batten down the hatches and watch over your Mom and Dad boys!
