It was nightime and mamma said it was time to go to da bed. Next thing I know I heard her say, "Oh, no you don't. Not in my house." I knew she wasn't talking about me because I had already got a baff and i was being a good girl. Suddenly, mamma started moving fast and was in da baffroom talking to somefing. I was startin to wonder about her. I went to check on her and she was chasin this little bitty mousie in da baffroom! I helped her and we killed it! I fink mamma was going to just catch it and let it go, but it might have had a heart attack from all da excitement cause it was dead. She was bery, bery proud of me.

It was the funniest thing ever. Usually Schatzi sees something move and ignores it. The only thing that gets her attention are crickets. I saw the mouse in the den and really hoped I could just catch it before it found a hiding place. I was able to run it into the bathroom. The nosy one came to investigate so she got to help. I've never seen her move that fast! She suddenly corned it against the trash can and it turned over on it's back. I put a bowl on top of it. I slid some cardboard under the bowl and went to toss it outside, but it was no longer alive. It was still in the same position it was in when Schatzi stopped it. She could have broken it's neck, as little as it was.
So, two days before her seventh birthday, Schatzi has killed her first mouse! Mamma is happy! Now, if she will only quit looking for it!! She is sniffing every little place it ran.

:angel4: Cooper-Angel used to chase little lizards in our back yard when we lived in Puerto Rico.  Of course, she consistantly killed them by putting her paw on them and pinning them to the ground.  She then sat, woefully poking the lifeless body and sniffing it, as if to say to her now-dead companion, "Come on, little guy, why are you napping?  Let's play tag again . . . this time you're it!"

Goodness, I didn't know mice could die of fright. Way to go Schatzi! I'll bet she is pretty darn proud of herself. Glad you didn't have to deal with a half alive mouse! I have never had a mouse in my house and hope I never do I have a feeling Hallie would bring it blankies and beverages. My Jessie found a baby mouse whose eyes weren't open yet (CUTE!) in a park once we brought him home and put it on a heating pad and fed him kitten formula and "Ralph" lived with us for 7 years. He got so old I finally had to have him put to sleep (cried my eyes out) and found out that Ralph was a girl.

Our kitties just caught their first mouse over the summer.  We have a lot of field mice and occasionally they get into the basement, I guess.  None of the doggies have caught one yet though-good job Schatzi!

Only you, Dee Dee, only you!

Today, I keep reminding Schatzi of what she did. Just hoping that if another one comes along, she will do the same thing again. I really do think the mouse died of fright. It was even on it's back with it's little paws up like "Please don't eat me!".
