We can´t stand the heat any more so our Mum and Dad are driving us to Nana in Scotland and Bolton, Lancashire too.  Nana promises we won´t get snowed in again.  We leave tomorrow and drive from Altea to Narbonne (France) and sleep in a hotel in a vineyard with lots of green to run in.  Mum and Dad get wine and dinner, we get dried food and water - and they say we are spoiled!

Day after we get the car and us on a train to Düsseldorf (Germany) and sleep on it all night.  We´re not sure how we piddle on a train (Mum and Dad  have real beds and a bathroom).  Arrive Düsseldorf after breakfast (dry stuff for us again) and drive through Germany to Holland, then through Holland to Belgium, through Belgium to the Coquellles (Northern France) to get that tunnel thing under the sea from France to England.  We hope it´s not frozen like in December and we don´t get stuck again.

Once we go through the tunnel thingie we sleep in a hotel on the beach in S. England and play on the beach and in their orchards.  Then we get to drive to Scotland and Nana will be waiting for us and have her lovely garden all ready for us to play and sniff.  It was white when we left in January and will be green and flowery now.

We don´t know if we can WiFi from Nana´s so we might be AWOL till mid-September.

Stay well, pupper pals and hoomuns, we´ll miss you all and have a haggis and a wee dram to your good health as well as tons of shortbread and squirrels.

Adios amigos,

:thinik: So is going through six countries faster or cheaper or easier than just driving through France to the great big dachshund hole in the ground?

Sounds like a great trip.  Be safe and hope we can hear from you from Nana's.
Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

Hi Auntie Karen

Mum hasn´t gone doolally and the SatNav isn´t responsible for a blip.  It seems a long way round but actually:

a) We normally drive up through France and it takes 6 days and 4 overnight hotel stops.

b) This way we only take 3 nights - two hotels, one train night - and much, much less driving.

c) It´s around 4.5 hours from Düsseldorf to Coquelles through Germany, Holland, Belgium and part of France.  From where we are here in Altea  to Narbonne is 9 hours, it takes 5.5 hours just to Barcelona!  Spain and France are sooooo huge. This way we drive to Narbonne, sleep through France/German, drive to Coquelles, sleep again once through the tunnel and drive 8 hrs or so to Nana´s.

We are bona fide teckels but that big underground tunnel is not our kind of tunnel....

You Spanish Teckels travel more than my American human family does! It sounds like you will have a wonderful trip. Just be sure to head home before the white stuff starts again!

That´s exactly what our Nana says too.  Our passport pages are full after this trip and we´ll need new ones next time around.  We love travelling!  Red is the backseat driver of the family....

We have a problem Auntie Dee Dee - we can´t reach the camera button with our pawsies.  We´ll tell Dad to take piccies instead only problem with him is he doesn´t necessarily like the same subjects as we do but we´ll try to influence him.

Try this on for size!  Nicht ein Teckel aber ein Dackel!!

Auntie Karen :sunny:

Yup, a teckel is a dackel in Austria, Bavaria and Schwaben.  I love the German phrases like "Dackelaugen machen" and "angedackelt kommen" I think no other breed has worked its way into the language like the dachshund has.

We laughed so much we cried, what a lovely wasy to start our trip with a smile on our faces, Red and Islay were fascinated.  Thanks ever so much, Karen.

Hi Gail
When we are in Bolton I can drop you a line and try to get over the Pennines to meet up, it would be fun to see you all, my cousin is a Doctor Professor at Leeds University and I haven´t see him in ages so maybe we can combine something. Hope we can see you soon.

Oh my goodness I wonder if I know him?? I'm also a Professor at Leeds University, within the Dental Hospital. I have been in post for less than a year but perhaps our paths have crossed!

It would be such fun to meet up if you can visit!!

I can´t even remember what naturally cool is like it´s been so long in the a/c bubble.  I know exactly how you feel.  At least you have a lovely pool.

We are in Narbonne in a gorgeous old hotel slap bang in the middle of a Vineyards right now - the Chateau l'Hospitalet - had a hairy 9 hours drive here but a gorgeous dinner and play in the vineyards with Red and Islay before and after.  It´s still in the 90's here but we should get cooler as we head north tomorrow.

Thank heavens for hotels with WiFi - we are missing you all already!

Hi there Gail
My cousin is Ivor Timmis and he´s a language specialist and senior lecturer in ELT.  His wife, Harriet Timmis, works at Leeds University too, I think as a secretary, not too sure.
We are now safe & sound in Bolton and enjoying the garden, moors and gentle sunshine.
It would be great to see you!
