Dee Dee, I'm with you. My pair are sort of rescue or rehome (ollie owners were moving over seas, and Amy was sent back at 16 weeks for being noisy), here a lot of the breeders take back their  dachies if they are not wanted. Out here they are not common so its hard to get one, even if you want one. Colleen ran the gammite with us and we had dachies, she and most of the group here have been working on shortening the disc spaces and concenting on health, we also don't see many colours. A woman has tried to set up a Dachie colour kennel, but was more or less shut down,as word got around the scene that they would not be registered and could not be shown..............
Nick would love another, but me like Dee Dee don't want the pain of watching potential back problems, plus as I am not getting younger I sometimes think it would be nice to have a dog that jumped into the car etc

That is amazing the color breeder got shut down, that is encouraging! Colleen sounds like another one of the few that should be breeding...it really is such a shame the back problems are so rampant in our breed, every breed has something, but boy these back things are pretty brutal. I haven't had that many doxies but every one I have (since childhood to now) has had back problems and we've been extremely careful with each one. My cousin dropped off her aussie here last week for a few hours so I could work with her on pulling and biting everything in sight puppy stuff, and like you say about the car I was thinking as I walked down the front steps with her, how nice if Hallie could safely do that. But dang for me there is just nothing like a longhaired dachshund (you too I know) it's just heartbreaking that they have to suffer so much with these awful back problems especially when we could improve them a lot if everyone would breed responsibly. But other than that they are the perfect little dogs and sooo adorable!

oh hey I'm not offended in the least...no not at all.

I hope I didn't offend you

I guess Im just promoting rescue dogs. And I don't care who or where you get the rescue dog from, just get one.

and you make a good point, some rescues need experienced owners...and breeding, yes we have to have responsible breeders to preserve the breed.

I KNOW I would end up with another long hair, maybe its me and Nick that should start looking for the equipment to let us continue to live with these guys. Dee Dee when Ingrid went it was the pits, as who what God takes a pup, I swore no other, but God opens a door to another heart that may not have a life without us, so never say never, and cross that bridge when it comes.

You have a good heart JetEd, I really do admire you for the hard work you do I know it's not easy. But so needed. Fostering is tough you get so attached and then it's hard letting them go but it's also rewarding to send them off to their hopefully forever homes. And it's easy to harbor a lot of anger towards the people who landed the poor innocent pups in that situation.  :cussing: I love reading your posts about a doxie in bad shape and then hearing how it turns out for them. My last "fosters" were Rich and Deb's Sophie and Hallie, they and another little boy, were dumped at the shelter during the night so we don't know where they came from or why. I had lost my longhair, Jessie, 4 years earlier and had sworn no more dogs it was so hard losing her. The shelter asked me to foster the 3 dogs, they were dirty and full of fleas and long nails (and both girls were in season and the boy was intact!) but great temperaments and happy little dogs. Really well behaved, housebroken too. I found a local home for the little boy but I couldn't find any homes I thought were good enough for the girls, and I spent days making phone calls everywhere I could think of. I visited several homes but they were not at all what the people made it sound like they were. In the end I flew with Sophie to Rich and Deb's in Iowa, which is the best home ever for a doxie! And I was to fly to Texas with Hallie 2 days later to her new home..but when I got back from Iowa I just couldn't give Hallie up and the rest is history. Now she's my heart and soul I really do think the ones we are meant to get find their way to us.

LOL Roberta I know what you mean I'm not getting any younger either maybe we'll be the ones ending up with the braces and walkers, maybe we need a trained ape that can carry US out to go potty and what not!  Yes your ordeal with Ingrid was horrific, it's hard to understand stuff like that. You are right never say never (just ask Delia lol) we can never know what lies ahead.
