Hey Dad!  How about some food?

No, really.  Will you feed me?

Back off Zeke!  I'm waiting for food!

No, really.  I do NOT want to play:

Darn it, Zeke!  This is FOOD we're talking about!

C'mon Dad, PLEASE let me eat the food!

:verdict: Talk about waiting for food?  Dr. Leaky catapults himself up into the air over and over until I have his bowl in my hand and order him to sit.  :idiot: He then has to wait until Ima sits and Merlin FINALLY decides to s-l-o-w-l-y sit and they are told, "O.K."

And this is the dachshund who came to me in 2006 after six weeks of crate rest for a bad back, with strict instructions not to allow him to jump!! :dontknow:

Zora dis is Amy I use the pushie technique.........................I bark at mum when she gets the dinner in the bowls then gets distracted, so I let her know I'M WAITING and I always sit on my mat when I tell her so she knows I'm really ready for dinnie. Oliver does the slinky around her legs, which is real dumb as it makes mum narkie and slows up da process.

David they are absolutely gorgeous, I love the expressions on their faces - particularly the 'telling off' serious face LOL.

Tris and Ivy of course are completely starved and when I do ever feed them it's like they have never seen food. There is always jumping up my leg going on to let me know that they NEEEED food. It isn't a fast process as I have them sit and wait while I draw up Tristan's epiliepsy medicine to measure out the right amount then before I touch the bowls I give Tris his 'sweetie' (I used to put his phenobarbitone tablet in with his food but he used to manage to find and reject quite sucessfully. However, if he thinks it is a sweetie he sits like a champion and takes it nicely like a treat and swallows it right down - this works because Tris doesn't taste food, he hoovers it without chewing largely). Then when I put down the bowls Tris has his gone in literally the blink of an eye while Ivy chews every bit of her food and takes slightly longer.

Usually, while Ivy is finishing off her food Tris comes to be picked up for a special Tris-time cuddle - accompanied by manly burp and lovely dried dog food kisses (so much nicer than wet food kisses).

I have a houseful of weirdos.  I have ONE dachshund who would do anything for foodies-he bounces on his front feet and spins in circles when the food dish is coming his way.  Naturally, this is also my only smooth, Murphy.  The other three...Reilly eats fine, but she's not enthusiastic about it.  Winston eats IF we put something *extra* in the dish (like bacon grease, eggs, cheese, steak, you get the idea), otherwise he looks at the dish like we've piled it with dog poopies.  ("Seriously-you expect me to eat THIS????").  Millie actually runs and hides when the food dishes are brought out.  You'd honestly think we'd force-fed her at some point instead of putting tempting morsels in it to get her to eat.  The only time she eats well is when she's in season (right now, praise the Lord).  I do not get it.

Zora really ask for food so well, one of the best food "asker" probably! Great captions too!;)

The Zs have one of the most unusual pack dynamics that I've seen.  Zora is easily the most submissive dog I have ever owned.   However, she has a very strong maternal instinct to both nurture and protect any of her charges.   Zeke is definitely an alpha, brash and intelligent.   Even though Zeke has a significant physical advantage over Zora, and probably a fair mental advantage, he will consistently defer to her.   The end result is a pretty harmonious "pack" that has very few "knock 'em down drag 'em outs".  I can count the number of those fights on one hand in any given year.  Even when these do occur, it's all noise.  They very seldom actually make contact with each other.    The Zs are far rougher when they play fight versus when they actually fight for real.

 It's all W.D.E. - World Dachshund Entertainment - air snapping, stumpy leg kicking, rolling around on the floor.  After all, it IS entertainment!
