...and celebrated by refusing to eat her dinner.  I've never had a dog so difficult to feed.   :dontknow:

Oh, and I forgot to mention-the little princess slipped her leash out of my mom's hands when we went for a walk last weekend, and she took off heck for leather down the street (dirt side road, not many cars) after a horse and rider.  I thought my mom was going to cry, and I just nudged her and said "walk away".  Sure enough, as soon as she saw that her compadres were not following her and were in fact going the other direction, she came running right back.    :thumb:  It would have been interesting to see her reaction if she'd gotten close enough to that horse to realize exactly how BIG it was....

I have the cure for a picky eater Tough Love put the food down for 15 minutes if not eaten pick it up give it next meal time.Picky eaters are usually caused by humans they do self feed bad idea for a Dachshund get over weight fast. Then humans see that their little darlen will not eat there dog food so they start adding canned food, people food, yogurt, all kinds of stuff. Then you get a picky eater pick a good quality food not talking Beneful,Science Diet,Old Roy any of the junk foods I'm talking Taste of the Wild,Ojourn, the better foods.put it down pick it up .Dogs will not starve themselves a dog is always going to be a opportunist see if they can get something better some will hold out 3-5 days max then they will eat. Of course that is if they have no medical problems if on a special diet of course you should feed that.Good Luck

Happy Birthday Millie!!! Time sure flies. She is soooo cute. Is she all dachshund, not wanting to eat? Hallie just went thru a not wanting to eat phase but with her I am pretty sure it was tummy problems coupled with a little too much spoiling, she's back to taking time out of her busy schedule to search the floors for crumbs.

Your poor Mom I'll bet she felt terrible poor thing! Glad everything was ok and Millie had a little excitement on her birthday week!  :thumb:

Well, she ate better yesterday.  Papbouv, I've actually done that with her and she went on a two week hunger strike-she ended up eating about 1/4 cup of food total over those two weeks and she didn't have a lot of weight to lose.  I've just learned to accept that she's not a good eater, and offer her food more often.  We have to be careful, because if we're not watching, Murphy will finish off what Millie doesn't, so he's gotten quite chubby.  She's a lot more agile than he is, though, so we've been putting her food up on the coffee table or a desk, because she can hop up there and eat, so we can essentially free feed her that way.   Both my dogs that were free-fed as puppies are pains in the butt to get to eat now, but with Murph and Reilly in the house, we have to schedule feed, otherwise they'd each weight 20 pounds.

Happy Birthday Millie!!!  I know why you didn't eat.  You didn't get your birthday EGGIES!!!!
Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

I watched a Dog Whisperer about a picky eater. You have to make her work for her food. By turning it into a game or hiding it and making her follow the scent or something like that. Sometimes when Finnegan is being a spoiled "prince" i find if i just sit by his dish with him he will eat it anyways. Or if i put it flat on the ground in the kitchen instead of in his dish. Weird i know.. maybe he's just a clean freak and doesnt like the mess.
