SO.  The Noodle Dog Playpen Experiment was an EPIC FAIL.  The thing was too big, too difficult to fold into shapes, too difficult for Scooter to see through, and the whole thing about the panels being "easy open"?  A LIE.  Even the combined power of me and a fully-grown male human roommate could barely get it done.  So we sadly (and with much sweating and swearing) folded it back up and stuck it back in the box to return it.  *sigh*  We're going to try a normal metal ex-pen next, and if that doesn't work, it will be back to Amazon for the more upscale playpen...

We felt so bad about this that we decided to let Scooter walk around a little bit in the living room, with us on our knees, arms out, blocking the couches like we were very short linebackers.  Well.  No sooner had Scooter's feet touched the ground than he cried "SWEET FREEDOM!" and *SPROING* hopped right onto the couch.  No crouching, no gathering his strength, no warning.  Just *HOP* and there he was, looking at us smugly while Roommate #2 and I had several consecutive heartattacks and cursed our slow human reflexes.  So, I picked Scooter up and put him back in his crate all "PAROLE DENIED" and there he'll wait until we can divine another solution.

Because man, is he quick.  And CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

(on the bright side, this means he's feeling even better than just before he went down...)

try the X-pen.  Simple. effective, easy to fold AND two pens connected will wrap around a queen size bed, thus entrapping all occupants, human and canine alike for a safe nap.   (Don't ask me how I know this.)

Sorry, Scooter. We reviewed yer file: DENIED until the next hearing.

well crap...nothing worse than getting all excited about something and it not working.  I would suggest a metal x-pen - the taller one - in case he tries to scale the sides to escape.   My Toby is in one during the day...and I had to attach weights to the bottom - because he would scoot it  :dontknow:  (don't let SCOOTman hear  :2funny:).

Also, my couch ramp is a piece of board that is an inch thick and a carpet runner stapled around it.  A foot and a half on the top end tucks in to the back of the cushion on the couch.  It does work its way out - so you have to watch and tuck back in every so often.

And yes, my house during the week DOES look like doggie daycare !!!!  :headbang:

May have to leash him for a while in the house so he cannot jump on the couch good luck with the x-pen.

Dee Dee and Hallie

Welcome to the world of half of you going

"OMG OMG OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE I LET YOU JUMP UP THERE WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIEEEE!!!!!"

and the other half whispering

*Phew....he can still jump he MUST be OK...*

It does sound like he's on the road to recovery and don't beat yourself up, everyone has a whoopsie-doodle with these guys, I was gently placing Hallie back into her crate once when she was incarcerated when a !@#*!!$&@!@&&!!*##@*!&@#*@&!*@#%&!!!@#*$%@!&#$*@&$#!!@%&#$#&!!&#$%*#&@&!~ cat showed up at Hallie's window and off she went like a shot, spinning her wheels and barking...I about passed out and was SURE sure sure I had just done her in, but she was fine.

*Phew....she can still run she MUST be OK...*

I think a 48" x pen will do the trick if you don't think he will try to climb up and out?

Barb your picture cracks me up it looks like a scaled down version of a Star Wars set! Does your personal trainer know what you are REALLY doing with your weights??
And people wonder why we need big houses and huge vehicles for such little dogs...

Dr. Leaky came to me in 2006 just having finished six weeks of crate rest at the Ingrams (who used to run Almost Home Dachshund Rescue) and I was given strict instruction not to allow him to jump. :nono:

This is the same Dr. Leaky who will at the first opportunity leap FIVE FEET off the deck and sneak out of the big yard to roam the neighborhood!  He also leaps UP IN THE AIR while I am putting food in his bowl on the counter! :dontknow:

That's why it's important to keep doxies lean and in condition.  The chances of throwing their back out is much less.

And don't worry - I'm sure L'Oreal or Clairol has a hair color shade to match yours. :thumb:

Yes the "I'm free, get outta da way"  they just wait for that few seconds when your defences are down and zip of they go  :nana:  .
Why not buy a wooden human baby play pen, that is what we used they clip together easy, Nick manages to put it together, and fits under a bed when not in use.
this is when we thought Ollie had done his cruciate.

Life would be boring without these little guys

I neglected to say it scrunches up to half way up the hal. This was added as Madam used to lose the back axle grip on turning to run to the front door.....................the guy in the carpet shop rang me back tomake sure it was 10 metres that I wanted.........................and try looking up red carpet on the internet!
Kidding aside its o Amy does not skid on the tiles that was about $300 and the new rug in the family room, to decrease skid space was  a further $700

Everyone,

Thank you for all the suggestions and pictures and stories you shared!  I love them all.  Dachshund people are very resourceful!  I especially love the free weights as ex-pen anchors.

Scooter is acclimating just fine to his new ex-pen "bedroom", tricked out with new bed and lots of toys and rawhides - he's feeling a bit under the weather today, but in general he seems happy.  Hooray!
