I was trying to figure out where I could watch the Olympics online since we don't have cable tv.    Well I went to the NBC website and saw a link.   When I clicked on it, it prompted me to tell them who my cable company was.   So you can only watch the Olympics online if you are a cable subscriber with your login and password to verify that you are a subscriber.

Here's my question....If you had cable wouldn't you just flip on the tv??   :dontknow:   I guess us "poor people" don't get the priveledge of seeing the games this year.

NBC local channel 5 in Chicago is showing the Olympics.

That is just a little strange and totally unAmerican. How can you support your team (even if it is only by cheering from them from your living room) if you can't watch them. I watched online during the summer ones last time, but I'm not sure if I had to put in the cable company info then. I'll do some looking around and see if I can find anywhere else you can watch it.

I would see if your local station is streaming it.  I hope so for you. :xfinger:

Thanks for the ideas everyone.   Our "local" NBC station is in Denver, CO and can only be seen if you have cable or satellite.   :doah:   :dontknow:  So...unless I have luck finding it online somewhere, no Olympics will be seen in this house.  We did get to see the opening ceremony, by finding a Canadian tv channel that was streaming it online for free.   Unfortunately, they aren't able to show any of the actual events online.   It really is frustrating.

I was checking around and it looks like if you go to CTV which is a broadcasting company in Canada you can watch what is live and videoed.  They have several event boxes, and you click on the one you want to watch.  Be it live or taped.  Hope this helps.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that you can't watch live or recorded full events without being a cable or satellite TV subscriber. It just seems to greedy and not fair to people like Amorette who live too far away to pick up a local station. I hope one of the other ideas works and everyone gets to watch the events they want to.

Yes it is Roberta.  Its pretty sad that something meant to build unity between countries has turned into a solely commercial thing.    I wanted to make more people aware of the fact that the Olympics don't get to be enjoyed by everyone, just a select few who can afford those cable or satellite bills, or who are lucky enough to live close to a local affiliate.   I tried several online streams that people pointed out and none of them work.  The CTV one does allow me to watch highlights, but as soon as a "live" event comes on, the site's video player magically quits working.    I've given up on the games this year and I'm hoping enough people will complain to NBC so people like me might have a chance of seeing them the next time.     :dontknow:
