My heart is heavy with sadness again.   I lost my great-aunt 3 weeks ago, my great-uncle 2 weeks ago, and now this week we are going to lose our cat.

Patches has been in my family since I was 6!!   She has lived a long and happy life since joining our family in April of 1989 as a Easter gift for my sister.   The whole family fell in love with the pretty little kitten.  She was full of spunk and playfulness.   She and my brother were babies together.   Any cat strong enough to survive that crazy boy deserves a medal.  He once tried to take her to grandma's by putting her in his suitcase.  She stayed quiet for about an hour and then we heard something in the back of our van meowing.   :2funny:  We had to turn around and take her back home.

She has been eating less, had arthritis, and has gone nearly blind.    She still had spunk and was a fighter.   Last week on one of her overnight "hunts" she must have met a mean cat or dog.   She came home Thanksgiving morning with no front teeth.  Something had caused them to be ripped out of her gums.   The vet said everything looked okay and she should be fine if she ate soft food and drank normally.   She had some swelling of her face and mouth, but didn't seem to be in a lot of pain.  We gave her pain medication and she seemed to be getting better.  Then this cold front came in.

She decided she is tired and wants to go to the bridge.   She has stopped eating (for the last 3 days!) is drinking barely enough to keep her hydrated.  She won't even drink her favorite buttermilk!!!  And she is lying around the house refusing to move.   My mom is taking her to the vet today, and they will most likely decide to put her down.  I will miss our pretty white kitty with gray spots all over and a beautiful gray tail.   I know she will be happier and much better off, but it will be strange not hearing her sweet meows greet me when I go to visit.

Okay, I have to stop now, I'm crying again.    I'll be sure and post when I found out what the vet says.

Rest in peace sweet baby girl!!

Sorry for the length, I just had to get this all out.

I'm so, so sorry to read this. It brings back still fresh and painful memories of losing my Quinn, my beloved calico. She was only seven but lost her battle with cancer in March of this year. There were many "ups" and I had great hope, but eventually I had to help her to the Bridge.           :comfort:

Amorette, I am so sorry to hear this!  I am a cat lover also (have 4).  Hang in there until you find out what happens at the Vet today.  Maybe her mouth has gotten infected.  Will be praying for Patches

Patches' health declined significantly last night.  My mom said she had multiple seizures and is now totally blind.  She is not walking, and does not move.  Her inner eyelids were involuntary moved over her eyes during one of the seizures and Patches is unable to move them back down.  She is being taken to the vet at 2:30 (the earliest they could get her in!) and will be sent to the bridge.   Due to the frozen ground here, she will be cremated and I'm not sure if they will give my sister the ashes or not.  We really wanted to bury her by our family dog Brittney.

So sorry to hear about Patches. Our Eddie passed in February 2008. We had him cremated, and then buried his ashes in the spring. My Son made a nice stone to mark his grave in the garden., and we planted a nice rose bush.
Take care......Kelly

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat.  Doesn't it seem like these things always happen around the holidays, which makes them even sadder.  At least your cat's life was happy and filled with love until the very end.

Very sorry for your impending loss for a cat to live to be 20years old especially one that has outside privileges is quite an accomplishment sending Hugs to all.Papbouv
