We have a few days left of hummingbirds in our yard before they head south to South America. Right now we only have the females and the juveniles. My favorite thing to do in the evenings is come in from work, grab my camera and go out in the yard and be entertained by their antics. They are so territorial and there have been times where six or seven of them have been chasing each other. Occasionally, one of two manage to find a chance to get food! Here are some shots I have captured. I am loving my camera!!

In the first one, I actually captured this bullyette in the tree, looking out for anyone going to one of Her feeders. The last picture shows one of the hummers taking just a second to look around and make sure she was still safe before continuing to eat.

Handle every "Situation" like a dog.
If you can't eat it or play with it,
tinkle on it and walk away.

Thanks everyone. I saw them around briefly this afternoon, but only a couple of them. I have a feeling they will disappear in a few days. The evening temps are dropping so they will soon head south. We only saw one this year when they came through on their way North, so the lst few weeks have been wonderful!

Aw i think Hummingbirds are SO beautiful! And darn cute! My partners mom sent me an email about this area that is along their migration, and there are MILLIONS! It looks awesome, and they all need something to eat, so they will even eat out of your hands!

Amazing pictures though, you must have a great camera and good reflexs to catch these guys on film!

I want to try to get them to come to me to eat, but haven't had a good chance. I may have time tomorrow, but I won't have anyone home to capture it on film. My thought is that I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if they will do it and then try on Saturday (or have Randy try) and get some pictures. I was told the easiest way to do it is to wear a red shirt and use one of the red lids from a Jif peanut butter jar (well cleaned, of course). Randy walked outside last year and held the feeder and one came up to it, but he said it was really hard not to drop it when they came buzzing past his ear!
Here is one of my favorite sites for info about hummingbirds http://hummingbirds.net/.
It is amazing to me that their wings can beat about 53 times a second!
If I have any luck tomorrow, I'll let you know.
