Please be very careful at a dog park sometimes things can go wrong very fast, interesting read at Leerburg.com about dog parks. Do not agree with everything on Leerburg web sitee iit does have some interesting information like how to break up a dog fight still not sure how you could do it. Bet your Fur Kid will sleep good tonight glad all went well and everyone had a ton of fun.

I was actually pretty impressed with everyone there, if the dogs started gathering around Fin too much someone would always scoop him up! I never let him get to far but even if he did manage to get seperated from us it seems everyone was keeping an eye out for him.

We left when alot of big BIG dogs showed up. But it seems to be mostly medium sized to smaller guys. And everyone is so well behaved!

Fin sounds like such a great little guy. You are both lucky to have each other!! Nice dog park that people watch out for him, we have dog parks near my house now but I've never taken Hallie to one, I am hoping it will cut down on the number of dogs running off leash in the park. I don't walk her there anymore because of the irresponsible owners who let their dogs run loose and yell "he won't hurt her!" as their 75 lb dog is barrelling down on us, just one misplaced paw on her back...makes me shudder. We usually walk in the gated senior community where my uncle lives or at the fairgrounds when no one else is there. No loose dogs, no kids on bikes... :thumb:

Yeah this dog park is Off Leash Only.

But most of the dogs, like i said, seemed really well behaved. The only one i was watching closely was a Bernese Mountain dog puppy who just fell in love with Fin. He just couldnt understand why he didnt want to wrestle! I had to snatch Fin up everytime he came thundering over. He was so sweet and i made sure to give him lots of hugs to make up for taking away his buddy.

Other then that, there was only a little scruffy dog that wanted to *ahem* "get to know" Finnegan better. But he wasnt big so i let Fin handle that one.. haha

LOL my cousins dog Max would like to get to "know" Hallie a lot better too...I keep counting the days til she can neuter the boy and hopefully curb that. I worry more about Hallie with other dogs because of her back and even a well intentioned play could hurt her. But it sounds like great socialization for Fin and he's passing with flying colors. Oh my gosh..a Berner puppy. I bet he's adorable! My friend had her Bernese when I had my Dane and our two giants were best buddies and would wrassle the ground would shake.

Sounds like a fabulous time !!!!    We have a couple dog parks - but they are all close to an hour away.  Nice though, because they each have a small dog section.  Have fun going back !

We have three dog parks in our community, soon to be four.    In all the times I've gone by the dog parks, I have yet to see a dachshie in the pen.    More retrievers than you can shake a stick at, though.

I take Parker to the off leash at least 3 times a week when the weather is nice. Be very dilligent about surpervising Finn, and other people should not be picking him up (not everybody knows how to pick up a doxie). We have had very good experiences, and other times I just gathered up Parker and leave.  Once I was there, and when I walked in everybody had their dog in their arms. One dog's ear was bleeding. There was a JRT running loose and the owner was very annoyed that nobody was allowing it to attack their dogs. He wondered how his dog was going to learn how to socialize.
You also need to be dilligent for dogs that show signs of illness, infections or fleas. For the most part however people at the park bring very well behaved and healthy dogs.
Also sometimes we go, and Parker clearly has a problem with a particular dog. At those times we also leave as well. Parker tends to be a little crusty if he doesn't like a dog. (the dog is usually a clumsy large puppy that steps on him lol).
Parker also prefers to play with his own breed. That may because we got him a 7 months, and all he was exposed to was his own breed.

Yeah i walked around with Fin in my arms for a while, checking out the dogs. I also find that the ones that go nuts when im holding Fin are the ones to watch out for. But most of the dogs could have cared less for the sissy little black thing getting carried around.
And even in the big pen, there is definatly "areas". Where we were standing were all the smaller calmer dogs. The big hyper ones were deeper into the field. Other then the bernie puppy who would gallop over and send everyone scattering.. haha

Dont worry i watch FIn like a hawk. He's my baby!

We are finally starting to get some dog parks down around here in our area. I am just not sure my pups would do good at one. Might have to check one out one of these days.

Sounds like a heap of fun. Before we moved "up bush" we occassionally took the guys to an of leash area, but it became  that meant them getting flattened by big dogs and a few agressive dogs with parents that did not care. Since we have moved, they are only occassionally on leash, as we walk out of town, they and their 4 cousins have a great deal of fun daily and my sister has about two acres dog proofed so they run like idiots.
