We finally got a surgery date for Katelyn...  I talked to Shriner's today, and found out that there was a cancellation & that she was next in line.  We took the date, it is next Friday, the 18th...  Now, I'm nervous..    She doesn't even know yet, she was in school when I found out..  lol  We are going to tell all the kids tonight after school..  Wish us luck next week...  Hugs to all..

I am so glad. I was actually going to send you a Facebook message today or tomorrow and see if you had heard anymore. I had been thinking about her and thinking they needed to do something before she got any older. My mom worked for Shriners here at one time and I was seriously thinking about asking her what you could do to get this done. Now I know they are taking care of her.
I think not knowing too far in advance is better than having a lot of time to worry about it. It would have been great to have had the summer to recuperate, but, then again, she had the summer to have fun! I guess this means you are homeschooling again!
We will all be thinking about you and Katelyn as you go through the next week and especially as the surgery is done and recovery begins.

I'm glad they finally got a date set for her surgery!!  We will be thinking of Katelyn and the rest of your family.   We're sending our prayers.

Thanks to you all....  It had actually gotten to the point that she just wanted to wait until they called rather than have me push the issue..  They called 3 days after she decided this...  lol   I won't be homeschooling again, we will be corresponding with her school on her homework..  I guess in a way I will be, I will have to teach her what she needs for her homework & I will also be doing my studies online...  I feel a busy 3 months coming my way...             Thanks for the prayers, I will soon be setting up a page where we will blog about her surgery & recovery and post pictures to it...  If you want I can share the site with you when I get that ready...  Well, time to be off for a football game, we got to drive 1 1/2  hrs. for it.  Our team still sits undefeated, I am hoping they win today....               *HUGS*

Well that´s a relief after all the time you have been hanging on.

I know it´s going to be tough all round and the surgery is not easy to go through, but Katelyn will feel so much better once her recovery is underway and be well set for her promising future.  She´s lucky to have you as such a special and caring Mum and good docs around too.  We´ll be rooting for you all through this time and praying all goes smoothly and the recovery period is swift.  It´s a great advantage she´s still so young and flexible, these thing heal and grow back so much better at her age.

It´s a different scenario but due to poor docs who didn´t listen to my parents - or to me - when I was 9 - 16 and to an unknown hereditary factor of osteoarthritis and too much sport and heavy travelling on my part later on, I ended up losing 7 vertebrae and their corresponding disks at 41 when the curvature and imbalance of my spine finally caused it to collapse on itself.  My spine is now titanium from the pelvis to "bra strap", has 4 permanent hernias in the neck and is an ongoing "reconstruction site" ......correction at Katelyn´s age is painful but permanent and a great investment.

I wish you both all the luck and comfort in the world and look forward to hearing of your progress.

Love

I will soon be setting up a page where we will blog about her surgery & recovery and post pictures to it...  If you want I can share the site with you when I get that ready...  be off for a

Definitely share the site with us. If it is one like CaringBridge or CarePages, it will be great for Katelyn, too, since she can read all of the guestbook entries, something that will be an encouragement to her. How far away from home will you be during the surgery/hospital stay?

Thank you Andrea, for your encouragement....  Katelyn's back problem could have been fixed when she was much younger, I first noticed it when she was just a couple months old...  I am thankful that we have finally found a good doctor who could identify the problem...

Teresa, I will definately post a link after I get it all set up...  If we were to stay at Primary Children's, I found out that she can recieve emails, they print them and deliver them to the patients...  Thought that would be neat for family & friends, but not sure how long we will be there.  If she does well, they will move her back to Shriner's, but, if she has difficulties they will keep her at Primary...  I may send that link out just in case, she would love to get letters from her friends I bet.        :thumb:       Her surgery will be done in Salt Lake City, Utah, it is about 3 1/2 hours from home, not too far, but far enough...  lol   My best friend of 20 years told me last night that she was going to try & go down the afternoon of Katelyn's surgery & stay the weekend in a motel, so if I wanted to, I could go for a couple hours with her so I can shower and relax on a real bed...  lol  Not a bad idea...          We will be in Salt Lake only 5 days, but that will be long enough for me without a car, I refuse to drive there, they are crazy...  lol   It is now less than a week away, and I still feel as though I have a million things to do before we go...  So much to do just around the house for her comfort and I get to do it all tomorrow so I can start my schooling on Monday...  The kids are going to help me move some stuff from the computer room, so Philip & I can get her bed moved in...  Lots to do...  I will post that link soon...  *HUGS*

I thought it was a few hours away. Having access to a hotel room will be wonderful! Just to get away from the hospital smell and sounds for a few hours will do you a world of good. I'll say my prayers that Katelyn can stay busy and distracted this week to keep her worries from overtaking her. That will be the hardest thing for her this week. I hope everything falls into place for you and you are able to get everything accomplished.

Thanks Roberta!!!  We will take all the rays we can get right now...

Well, it doesn't look like I will have the access to a hotel room, I just talked to my friend and their finances are pretty tight also, she has nobody to watch her 2 youngest boys.  I got the main thing taken care of yesterday, that was getting her bed into the computer room, of course it had to be cleared out too... lol   But, it's done and her bed is in...  I set up the blog page today, I will post the story there and then let her write in the journal.   There are a few pictures on there now, I will take more as we progress through the surgery and recovery.   Thanks to you all for being here for us...  You are all very special!!  I will try and keep you posted on here also about how Katelyn is doing.  Thanks again, you guys are awesome!!!!  *HUGS*
