I pulled a dog from a shelter yesterday that was in bad shape. I went down to look at him, he wasn't a doxy but there was no way I could turn my back on him. 2-3 year old doxy mix with bad bad demodidix mange. If his heart worm test comes back negative I'll probably be able to save him. If it's positive then it might be kinder to put him down. Mange and heartworms severly limits our treatment options.

this dog came from a hoarder and Animal Control is preparing a case against the person, Hopefully they'll manage to get her some help.

don't look at the photos if you don't have a strong stomach....

I'm hopeful, when I left him at the vet he was waging his tail and seems to be very sweet.

Bless you for rescuing! Sending mega rays from my rescue boys and hoping he is heart warm negative! :xfinger:

Poor little guy!  He has a cute little face, in spite of the mange.  I really hope you can help him.  Will you be taking donations for his medical expenses?  If so, please post in case anyone else is interested in donating.

To cheer you up, you will be happy to hear that your favorite rescue boy, Sammy, is still doing great (Sammy said favorite).  I am going to post some pictures that I took last weekend of the boys sunning in the backyard.  Hopefully your new boy will turn out as beautiful and sweet as Sammy.

Good luck!

What is wrong with people, how can anyone knowingly do that to a sweet little dog is beyond me. I am with everyone else praying he gets the chance in life he deserves.

That littles dogs face just hit me to the core and brought tears right to my eyes. Whoever did that should be shot.

I'd love take donations but it's hard to ask. We have a small crew here and I'd say most are a little strapped for cash right now. I know I am with my medical and dental bills but I'll manage. Although I've tagged him DRNA he's actually a mix ....pppfffftt....the whole thing is a mess with my DRNA crew right now.

We'll manage, I guess he'll be MY project dog. Probably when I get him healthy I'll just turn him over to the local rescue group to find him a good home.

Great news - no heartworms !

And to quote Ottosmom - whomever is responsible for the shape he is in should DIAF (die in a fire).

Bless you.

Just to let ya'll know, Jethro is still at the vet, doing very well and making progress.

I think he'll come home Saturday to my house for a few weeks until we can arrange transport to the Northeast for him.

We will send rays that he continues to get better!    :apls:

good news

jethro is now home with me, he's doing much much better and is now safe to mix in with the pack but I'm still going to keep him separated from the rest until he gets a little stronger. He's a sweet little dog and will make a great pet for someone.

I'm not so sure that he's really a mix, he's got the dachshund face and ears but he's so skinny that I can't tell if his legs are that long or not. :dontknow:

That is such great news!  I can't wait to see pictures of Jethro when his fur starts to come back.  His face is adorable.  I hope everything continues to go well with him.  You are doing such a good thing!

Speaking of fur, Cale and I went to a dog show over the weekend and saw the dachshunds competing.  Those black and tan competitors had nothing on our Sammy.  His fur is as shiney and beautiful as any show dachshund!!

oh I wish I had taken pictures of Sammy when I first got him. You would be shocked at the difference, he is just absolutlely gorgeous now, you've done a really good job with him.

does he still wag his tail in circles?

Dogs named Jethro have outstanding chances of beating the odds, and I'm proud that the name is being put to good use.  He looks doxie enough for me

GREAT NEWS.

I noticed it this morning.

Jethro has a light covering of fur growing back over the better part of his body.

I think he's going to be a light red or tan color, hard to tell right now but fur is growing back.
