Aww - she was adorable as a baby, and she is simply stunning, all grown up!  Do the boys bark at her, or do they assume she is a tall sibling?

The dogs don't bark at the horses, in fact, they are not allowed to be anywhere near the corral.  Willy likes to eat the horse poopies and I don't really want to mix 1200 lb. animals with 14 lb. animals.

The time goes by way too fast. I can't believe she is 5 already, did you break her to ride yet?

Not yet.  When we do, we will get a professional to work with her.  I still can't ride due to my neck.  Its just as well, Neeki could stand to mellow out a bit before we ride her.  We are going to get her used to the feel of a saddle this summer though.

Dee Dee and Hallie

That sucks you can't ride, how is your neck doing? I really miss my horses and showing, I'm thankful I have my cousin's farm to go out to and get my horsie fix. I hope by the time Neeki is good and broke you will be able to ride again.

Patti - that last picture brought tears to my eyes...STUNNING, she is.    Seeing her head over the corral fence made me think of your Domingo Angel   Would love to see a pic of Neeki at Christmas time with the Santa hat  :comfort:

She is a very pretty girl all grown up.
Do you have any gentle horseman people up your way, as they break them in very diffrently to the traditional way, gentle and it makes them want to be riden. My sister in Law is now a teacher of it, and she now breaks in one of her friends race horses that way. What she can make her own horse do is mind boggling, she has now trained Lallan (large clydie) to get in his float with the flick of a hand.
Our pair now ignore the guys when they come up and visit now, not that I would ever let them out alone with them, but if we go out and they appear they just seem to go ho hum, you's three again.

Yes, we will make sure Neeki is "gentled" as opposed to "broken."  I won't let anyone be cruel to my horses, that is not necessary.  And since Neeki Girl has been handled by humans her whole life, she should be easy to train.  There is never any need to break a horses' spirit.  Thanks for caring Roberta!

What a beautiful girl!!!   I love her baby pictures as well as her "grown up" ones.

Teresa

I remember all those early pictures. I also remember the pictures of the first attempt at getting a halter on her  :2funny: She didn't want any of that.
She is absolutely beautiful!
I do hope your neck is to the point where you can ride again once she is broken. The more chance the bone has to fill in, the stronger it should become, so hopefully that will make a difference.

Wow she reminds me of a gelding i used to have. Tango was a "mutt" he looked like a paint but def had clydesdale in him. But he could jump any fence. I broke my leg one summer and he climbed wooden steps to come see me at the house. He would "knock" at the sliding glass door till i hobbled out to see him. It was pretty funny to look out into our backyard and see this HUGE horse looking into the sliding glass door.

LOL!!!  Tango sounds like he was a wonderful buddy for you.

Beautiful pics...then and now.

I always found it fascinating how horses will "rate the rider".   If they don't have confidence in the person in the saddle, they won't respond.   When I tried riding a horse for the first time, at one point, the horse just came to a dead stop with that "Okay, now what are you going to do?" attitude.   Fortuntately, I was working with a very experienced handler and we got the horse going again.

You are absolutely right.  When I was learning how to ride, on Hondo, whom we still have, he is 50 this year, he knew that I didn't know what I was doing.  I couldn't get him to do anything and he would act like "to heck with this" and head back to the barn.

First of all, these are the strangest puppers I have EVER seen, and I've seen plenty.

Second, Hondo has got to be the Senior Wiener!  How come he doesn't get HIS piccy on the board.  It's age-ism, I tell you, age-ism.  Someone should sue.  Wait!  That would be me!

O.K., I'm giving notice that Hondo, my newest client, is entitled to a little more respect in his sunset years.  Posting a piccy would go a long way to assuage his sensitive feelings.

Sensitive?  That horse sleeps more than Guinness does!

What'd I do?

Nothing - go back to sleep, buddy.
