Another favorite sign of Spring

For the last two years, I have had bluebirds visiting my birdhouse in my yard and raising their young. When we moved, I was afraid I was miss out on seeing these beautiful birds. So far, the birds haven't found the house, but they are often making an appearance in the trees nearby. I'm amazed at how many we have around here. I'm off to get mealworms in the morning and see if I can entice them to camp out here!
Today, I went out with my camera and happen to look on my mailbox and saw this visitor...



I decided to follow him around and couldn't believe I got this shot!



Of course, now I want a lens for my camera that has even more zoom power. I'm going to get in big trouble with this, I can already tell!

Wow have not seen one of those in years google Blue Birds and see what kind of house they like and try to put one up their was an article in our newspaper some weeks back. An elderly gentleman put up bird houses for them had a few in his yard but he said Sparows would raid a Blue Birds nest kill the babies and take over the nests he was giving a lecture on how to get rid of Sparows. I did not know Sparows would do that Good Luck with your meal worms and Blue Birds.

Great pictures, Teresa.  I wish we had some bluebirds in our yard.  We get Doves, Robins and Starlings.  I do get the Goldfinch at the feeder.

I had never seen a bluebird until 2 years ago when they built the nest in the birdhouse I had. It wasn't even one they normally like, but apparently they liked the location. I'll have to find the pictures I have from that time. Because it was on the corner post of my patio privacy fence, I could set my camera up on the tripod and snap away! How I wish I had that opportunity with the camera I have now!
I have an actual bluebird nesting box, but I think I need to change the location. I plan to do that when I put out the mealworms. There is a good chance that this time around with the mealworms they will be using them to feed a brood they are raising in a neighbor's tree or nestbox, but hopefully they will choose my yard for the next one.

Beautiful we don't get them here as far as I know. But we have a family of wren's and wagtails who are also a joy as long as you keep the car windows up as they love mirrors. Yes with a new higher power lense you could get into a lot of troubel.

We have one in our backyard.  I spotted it around dusk one evening.  It was simply stunning to look at.   Due to our proximity to wooded parkland, we have had nearly 20 different species of birds pass through our yard, from hummingbirds to turkey vultures.

With the Spring migration underway, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Indigo bunting should be around here in the next few days. They will only stay for a week or so, but I love seeing them when they are around. Hopefully I'll be able to capture a shot or two of them.

Those are great pictures! How were you able to get the one on the tree branch? That one caught my eye!

I have a Nikon D60 camera and a 55-200mm zoom lens. It's amazing how close in you can bring some objects. I only cropped that picture a small amount. The bird wasn't too far up in the branches, but far enough away that I wouldn't startle it.

I love the colourful birds. We have a few cardinals around here, and blue jays. The blue jays are scrappers.
