Today our house was broken into. They got a lot of small electronic/computer gear, a couple of small cameras and our jewelry (nothing all that expensive, but we lost some memories) and all our prescription drugs and of course the house was trashed. They got the dog biscuits down and must have bribed the dogs, but thank goodness didn't harm them in any way. They were pretty hyper when we got home. All our big gear, good camera, desktops, stereo equipment, and musical instruments untouched so it could have been much much worse. We figure our loss at about $2000. We'll see how good our homeowner's insurance is now. We're still pretty rattled and imagine sleep will be hard to come by tonight. But we've got our furkids! I guess as bad luck goes this was pretty mild.

Thank goodness they did not harm you Fur Kids read an article a few months back a Dachshund was in his crate and some one broke in stole items and poured poison over the dog's food & water. When the owners were called home by a neighbor they rushed the dog to the vet he did not make it.You are very, very lucky indeed, both my sister's have been broken into both now have alarm systems.Sorry this happened to you but am afraid its going to happen more & more with the economy the way it is.Give the Fur Kids an extra Hug Hugs to you too.Papbouv

Oh no!  What a shame this happened to you.  Rattled, indeed.  I'd be a basket case!  Thank goodness that the dogs were not hurt.  Thank you, God, they weren't harmed.

Holy cr@p!!!  I am so glad the dogs weren't hurt.

OMG!!!!!!!!!
I heard from Roberta first...how terrifying. For what it was, yes you were very lucky the dogs are OK I can't even think of what that was like...my parents were robbed when they first moved into their place and they said, like you, it wasn't so much the stuff they lost but knowing some creeps were rummaging through their things and not feeling safe for a while. They got a burglar alarm just after. The whole board should come out and hunt these guys down this makes me so furious! Just so glad they are OK. Hope you and Deb get some rest tonight Rich.

:BangHead: I feel your pain and frustration, Rich.  I got broken in to in August 2007, while my daughter and son-in-law were living in the basement!  They took everything AND trashed the place AND tried to blackmail me into paying $600 to return the stuff!!!  Grrrr. . .

What an awful thing to happen.  Thank goodness the puppers are fine, they deserve extra goodies for keeping those dastardly burglars away from your precious stuff.  I know you must feel awful about losing your sentimental items and it´s a horrible feeling to have had them rooting around your home, but we´re glad it wasn´t worse.  I´d get an alarm system asap as I´d be worried they might come back for the rest....we have a system which works through mobile lines so can´t be cut off even if the telephone lines or electricity go down.
Keep safe!

Thank God the dogs are OK.

IMHO...you can burn the house down and rob my bank account and might be able to look the other way,  but if you mess with my dogs you'll pay with your life.

Thats no joke folks.

Oh my gosh!!!  I'm so happy your dogs are okay.   That must have been really scary for them.    I hope your insurance comes through for you and you find the people that did this.

TerriL

How horrible!  For all of you!  Like everyone else, I am so glad that the furkids are okay.  Still, it's so sad that we live in a world where people actually do this sort of thing.  I simply do not get it.

I, likewise, am glad that the furkids seem not much worse for the wear.  I am happy to hear Sophie and Sam were not hurt by the perps!  I got my alarm system for free years ago, and the monitoring system is about a dollar a day, plus it includes a hard-wired fire alarm.  Once you remember to always shut it off before going outside with the dachsies ( with or without a dog door), it becomes quite comforting, IMO.

The morning after. Yes, an alarm system is in the works. One was in the house when we moved in but it was turned off and no one knew how to activate it, well, Deb is taking the day off and along with calling the insurance company she's going to see about getting it updated and activated. We got about 3 hours sleep last night. The shock wore off and anger set in. But we do take comfort that it could have been much much worse. We have serial numbers for some of the electronics that they got and the detective already called to get our list of stuff and as soon as they have the serial numbers they'll make a sweep of the pawn shops.

OMG, Rich, how awful.  I know how you feel as my home was robbed too (many years ago).  I am so thankful they didn't physically hurt the furkids, but I know they must have been scared.  I know you will feel a bit better once the security system is activated.

Both my sisters love their alarms they say they sleep better at night feel safer in their own homes they say they will never be with out one.My dh is too cheap says he does not want to push buttons so I have my Buddy and hope he is enough always had a big dog so far it has been enough.Funny but Patches is more of a watch dog than Buddy she barks when some one comes to the door Buddy does not. I always say Buddy is her silent back up???? I have wanted one for years just for the fire protection hate to leave the house with the dogs in the house because of the fire danger old house.Good luck hope they find out who did it and maybe get some of your stuff back.Hugs Papbouv

That's my biggest fear is somebody breaking into my home and harming Parker.
I'm so glad they left the puppers alone, and that they are safe.
There is a gang here of pros that break in with attack dogs. The dogs go in first and kill they family pet. It's horrific.

OMG Rich- so glad that everyone is ok.  Sucks big time to lose all your stuff.     So sad that your peace of mind in your own home can be taken away so quickly.  Hope they can catch them -

We have a system that was in our house when we bought it last year, but we have not activated it yet. Molly would probably scare anyone off, but I'm also afraid of what they would do to her and Schatzi if they really wanted in. We may have to rethink this.
I'm glad they decided to try the dog biscuit route with Sophie and Sam. Makes you wonder if they have (or at least had) pets of their own. Having your serial numbers is great and it does make it easier to track things. You've reminded me I need to make sure I have the one for my laptop. I know I have it on the box in the attic, but it's not easily accessible there.
I hope you are able to sleep a little better tonight. Give Sophie and Sam some extra belly rubs from the Willis family.

I am so sorry to hear this although I am glad you and the dogs are safe.  My thoughts and prayers are with you as I know this is a real emotional time.

That said, I would like to share a VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY TIP  for our group.  And this, coming from our local Police Chief.

If you come home to find that your house has been broken into, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY and call the Police.  You never know who might still be there.

Be safe out there you guys.

We're glad this one turned out okay.   Inanimate objects can be replaced...puppers can't.   Glad that the thieves had a little bit of a heart.

I know this would not have helped in this situation but will mention one security device for future reference.

If you have a newer car, the kind with the car alarm on it.  PUT your keys with the alarm by your bed.  Should you hear noise that might indicate breaking in or even just a prowler, set off the alarm!  At the least it will probably make whoever wants in to decide to go away, and it could also get neighbors to pay attention and or call the police!!

I think to for anyone who is now really sort nervous after having a breakin, just having that key &alarm handy might help you sleep better!!
