So I was wondering what you all give your furkids in the way of vitamin supplements? We feed Penny http://www.royalcanin.us/products/productdetail.aspx?ID=69 because of her dermatological problems and we have been giving her the NuVet Plus Supplement forever http://www.nuvet.com/nujointplus.asp.

I'm just curious what everyone else gives in the way of supplements? The NuVet supplement is pretty expensive and I was just looking for other options.

Thanks!!

Zoe and Winston are on Glucosamine/Chondroitin MSG tabs each day as well as Sheba, my Aussie.  They have been taking these since Zoe's surgery in Aug. 2006.

Over the weekend I read that Omega 3 oils were suppose to help a dog with Canine Cognitive Disorder as would food rich in antioxidants so I bought something called Grizzly Bear salmon oil and started Eddie on it yesterday.  And his food is very rich in antioxidants so we'll see what happens.  He's getting worse, especially at night when he paces more and gets stuck in places that really frustrate him.  Hopefully the oils will do a small bit of good.  There is a med called Anipryl that is suppose to be a big help, but the vet refuses to give me a perscription and instead ops for something that just didn't work.   god I hate to see him like that it makes me cry.

Marcia,
Why did he refuse to give it to Eddie?   Did he give a reason?  If he doesn't give a good reason I would check with another vet for a second opinion.

When I asked Dr Cindy about it she seemed disinterested in it, so I'm going back this week armed with my research and a coupon for a 30 day free supply of the meds.  I would love to just give it a try.  If she won't I'll call another vet we used to use.

Marcia,
That is the drug they would have used on Zeke and said they had had good results with it.  We couldn't use it because of his seizures.
Zack is starting to get up several times a night now too.
Good luck.

I just bought free and easy for Gunner who had back surgery (IVDD) 6 weeks ago. I posted the link in another thread. I'm also gonna get seapet fish oil-it already has the vit.E in it.

Hallie gets cosequin, my vet said that was the only one tested that always had the right amount but I don't know if that's true or not. It's so hard to tell if any of this stuff helps...they still get arthritis and still get back problems, the only hope is it isn't as bad as without the supplements but there is really no way to know for sure. I guess as long as it doesn't hurt them...

I was giving her fish oil for a while but stopped I think I may start that up again. I'd be curious to know what you decide for Miss Penny!

I bought the Free and Easy for Gunner,  cause of the back surgery. It has all the good stuff they need in it. He also gets fish oil and vitamin E.  Ester-C is one that all doggies should also take.
