Zack is 15 today

My baby Zack is 15 today.  I can't believe that it is that long ago we had his litter.
He is doing pretty well but does have a weakness in his right rear leg. So he has had some problems slipping on the ice this winter. But he was really frisky and bouncing around on the bed and playing with Zena when she went in season a month ago.

Zena and I are doing a bite-prevention program with the health department at a school today so I will give them their birthday treats and dinner later.

We go to the schools along with someone from the health dept.   They show a movie and tell the kids about rabies and being careful around animals.
The movie is from AKC and shows kids what to do if a strange dog or group of dogs come at them.  Like "be a tree" and keep your hands in your pockets or give yourself a hug and if you are down on the ground "be a log " and lay on your stomach and clasp your hands together and hold them over the back of your head and cover your ears with your arms. It also shows the correct way to greet a dog that you meet.
1. Ask the owner if you may pet their dog.  If no then say thanks and walk away.
2. If yes then put your hand out in a loose fist with the back of the hand up and let the dog sniff it. This protects your fingers.
3 Then slowly scratch them under the chin.  Some dogs are afraid if you raise your hand over their heads and might be afraid of getting hit.

We bring the dogs and the kids get to practice what they saw and ask us questions about our dogs.


She did great.  The teacher asked if we would be doing this next year.  :thumb:



Zack and she both got eggies for his birthday and he got some new toys and they got greenies.
