Cajsa is a goat.   :goat:  I swear she's been one since we got her and I don't think she'll ever be any different.  Most of you have heard how she eats things she shouldn't and for the first few years of her life was in the vet's office every other week as a result.  Well, she's down to about 3-4 times a year now and that is great - for Goat dog.  My situation is this, as long as it's not toxic we induce vomiting with ipecac syrup.  (She does not respond to peroxide or salt water at all.)  This week she ate a dozen or so Q-tips so she had to have her tummy emptied.  Well, we do that at home provided it's not toxic like I said.  We used the last of the syrup and can't get it here anymore.  It's been pulled from the shelves at every pharmacy in town and no one will order it.  I know it's not supposed to be used for kids or adults who have ingested a poison, but that's not why I need it.  I also was told that it was being abused by people with eating disorders to induce vomiting as a second reason it wasn't carried and couldn't be ordered.  My question is this.  Can anyone else out there get some and send it to me (I'll pay for it and shipping, etc.) or tell me something else I can use to induce vomiting in this stubborn hound.  The way they do at the vet's office is to put a pill in her eye (I can't remember what kind right off hand) but I can't have those at home so that's not an option for me.  I really can't take her to the vet every time she channels her inner goat so I'd really appreciate any advice to help with this.   :ambulance:

Hi April,

The Queen of Google here.  I did a search and made some calls it seems everyone has the stuff on back order, why I don't know.  I'll check around here, but haven't seen it anywhere; if I do I'll pick some up for you.

Kelly

April: This is Kelly in Illinois;go to Amazon.com for the syrup! I don't know if they'll send it but I seen it on the web-site!

Kelly, I saw it listed on Amazon, but no one actually had it.  Most of the links I clicked on from there sent me to things like cough syrup which weren't really helpful.  I'll keep my eyes open and hope Cajsa doesn't need anymore any time soon.  Someone did tell me I could mix a tablespoon of dry mustard with a cup of water to induce vomiting as well.  So I may use that to see if it works for her.  Keep your fingers crossed that it won't come to that though!

I'll keep my eyes open for any of that syrup around here.    I haven't seen it recently, but I'll definitely look.   I really hope that you can find it soon!

good grief.  Looks like they might be pulling it from OTC status.  (I love it when someone decides for ya that you can't properly make your own grown up decisions.)

You might have her checked for PICA. Also there is a mixture of peroxide and water that induces vomiting and it is save ,many on another board use that.

Cajsa does not respond to peroxide.  You can actually give it straight then jog them around for a few minutes to "shake things up" but it doesn't work for her.  Gretchen responds like a charm the few times I've had to empty her out.  (She got my FIL's blood pressure pill and got dosed a few months ago.)
