Roscoe is doing great.  Thanks for all your rays and prayers.   :angel4:

Two weeks ago today Roscoe became paralyzed in the rear due to a disk rupture at T-12/T-13.  He had surgery within hours of becoming paralyzed (and within 3 days of any symptoms of pain starting).  He makes baby steps each day towards recovery and I am certain he will be near 100% when he is fully healed.

He is still on crate rest, and will be for several more weeks, but we are supposed to take him outside 3-4 times a day to do his business and give him the chance to sling-walk.  (Sling-Walking is where you support their weak end with a sling, but let them use what muscle control they have to walk.)  He does really well with sling-walking.  He always moves his right leg, and is left leg is now moving most of the time too.  When I take the sling off he is able to stand on his own for a moment before I put him back in the crate. He can still bear more weight and is more stable on the right side.  It is common for them to be weaker on one side than the other.  Roscoe can pee on his own when we sling-walk.  He is even trying to lift a leg to mark the pine tree.  Roscoe can also control his bowels and he is now even squatting (with support from the sling) when he poops.

We see the surgeon again tomorrow morning.  Roscoe will get his stitches removed. He will be examined, and we'll be given instructions for therapy for him to do over the next few weeks as his recovery continues.  I'll post tomorrow to let you know what the vet says.  I'm very excited to hear what the doc has to say after seeing how far Roscoe has come already.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Fabulous!  Give Roscoe many kisses from me.  Kisses seem to work therapeutic wonders. ;)

That's great to hear!  I"m so glad he is getting better so quickly!  You guys deserve kudos for getting him the help he needed ASAP and for putting in the time to help him get better afterwards!  {{HUGS}} :toothy4:

It sounds like Roscoe is doing very well.  I've been through the back surgery with one also a T12/T13 disc as I remember.  She did not recover as quickly as he seems to be doing.  That's great news!  Please keep us updated.

Wonderful news Krista. We've been keeping you and Roscoe in our prayers. Sounds like he's going to be 100% before his hair grows back in!!   :thumb:

Thanks everyone.  I'll post more tomorrow after we talk to the vet.

At least I'll be at home and can post from our laptop with wireless internet while sitting on the floor with my little buddy.  As much as I hated to spend money on a new computer so soon after these surgery costs, that wireless thing is NICE.  LOL!  I guess that is one positive thing to come of the old desktop dying on me.

Isn't wireless the best!!  :thumb: It is so great to sit on the couch with Penny and be able to be on the computer as well!

Yes, it is fabulous, Kari.  I'm sitting here on the couch right now with Gwennie and Rudy - the gotcha day boy.

Not sure about this DSL though.  I had cable internet before and it seems faster, but this yahoo DSL is a TON cheaper than cable internet here.  You know my brother lives next door to me right?  Well I logged into to his wireless connection too (with his permission and encryption code) and it works.  He has Roadrunner cable internet still.  The only thing is, the signal from his wireless is pretty weak in the far end of my house, which is where I spend most of my time.
