Patches is spending the night in the Animal Emergency  Vet they think she ingested one of my medications or hubby's medications about 6:00 pm she started shaking trying to roll her eyes told hubby something was not right with her so I got hubby's check book took her to the Emergency Vets they took her right back. Did a bunch of blood work said they thought she ingested one of our pills or some kind of toxin they were not sure.At 10:00pm  the vet came out to talk to me went over her blood work said it was pretty good just a little off.Going to keep her on IV's and put some charcoal down her will get her in the morning and see if she should go to her vet before going home.Any spare rays would be appreciated  they think she is going to be OK I sure hope so will miss my little bed buddy tonight. When I got home Daddy had Buddy in the house loose and he was in bed but must have been listening for me to get home so he could ask about his little girl.

How scary!  Let us know how she is doing today.    I'm sure you had a hard time sleeping last night, so make sure both of you get some rest today.   :comfort:

Update went and got Patches from the Animal ER took her to my vets she was barely shaking the ER sent her IV along with me so my vet said they would hook her back up to the IV. Let her stay the day and I should call abut 3:00pm to maybe go get her I told her that I really did not want Patches to spend the night because no one is there to watch her. Sure home the little brat gets to come home. They think she got a pill of mine I try to be extra careful but they are little so must have missed it.Papbouv

Seems like she escaped with out any problems I hope any one have any ideas on having pills I try to be extra careful do not let her in the room when I take my pills in case I drop one any one do anything special???Papbouv
PS: Thanks for all the Rays they must have helped.

Same thing happened to my JR years ago. I was struggling to get the kid cap off my meds, and it just flew off, and meds all over the floor. Of course my JR ran to the kitchen to gobble them up as fast as he could. The rule was if it hits the floor, it's the dog's.
Fortunately, my JR vomited immediately, while I was freaking out, but we still rushed him to the emergency clinic, and he was fine.
After that, we got a little smarter. I close the kitchen door when ever I do my meds. It's so easy to drop them when you are getting them out of the containers.
Parker is trained to not eat anything that is not served in a bowl. ie pills, poop, whatever. The command when he starts to show interest in something on the ground or floor is "no snacking". For the most part he gets it, but I don't trust him.

Thanks for the ideas sounds like pretty much what I was doing already of course the vets were guessing on what might have happened. Guess we will never know for sure, if they could only tell the vets what is what is wrong if that is the only time they could talk.
This morning went by the vets Patches no longer has the hep lock she was a very good girl to keep it in all night now just has a no hair zone on her leg.
Very glad that is all behind us hope it never happens again too scary for the human parents.

Glad to hear she's home and doing well.  I must have missed this somehow.

Gretchen has gotten pills before and I can't get anything out of her mouth once it gets there.  Cajsa I could stick my finger down her throat without a problem but Gretch will bite.  I have places on my fingers/thumbs to prove it.  If you do see them eat a pill you can give them hydrogen peroxide immediately and it will cause them to throw up.  That gets it off the tummy before it gets in their system.  Gretchen will let me do that without a fuss, but I have to let her swallow it first.  Go figure.

For a 10 pound dachsie it's 10 mL then wait 15-20 minutes, if no vomiting try another 10.  You can put a leash on them and make them run to get things 'shaken up' and it works pretty well.  I add a disclaimer that you should always check with your vet in case of other complications, but when I worked at a vet's office this is what we did for chocolate or pills, etc. that were swallowed.  Of course Cajsa is the one dog this doesn't work on, she WILL NOT vomit.  She fights it like nobody's business shaking her head and pacing, so it doesn't ALWAYS work, but it's a good first line of defense.

The other is a bolus of salt, wet the salt with enough water to hold it together and get it down their throat. Angel Angus once ate the led of the pregnisalone jar and we did not know if he had ingested any poor soul trhew up for ages but at least he was alive.

Oh my, I am so glad Patches is OK. We've had our scares with pills too when my Dad was still here, Hallie got a heart pill twice...I now can't let her down to roam in someone elses house without being a nervous wreck and hovering over her every move. Very scary I still think what if I had not seen her eat it...

Give Patches a hug for us poor little girl, if this happened in your household then it can happen anywhere because I know how careful you are.

That was the problem I never saw her eat anything I have dropped things if I do i can say Leave It and she will not touch it if she has something in her mouth I can tell her to drop it she usually does. The drop it is not 100% yet, this time I never saw her eat anything at all if I had she would have gotten the Peroxide for sure. The reason why I thought something was up she reminded  me of the Corgi pups on the Vet show on Animal Planet. There were 3 I think 1st one brought in shaking really bad his eyes were rolling back and forth ,he did not it make it.Then other family members brought in 2 more doing the same thing but not as bad they made it though never did find out what they got into. They had been out in the yard they figured the 1st one ate the most and the other did not get as much? Was a really sad show to watch. Patches seems back to normal now thank goodness. Thanks for all the good wishes and Rays.Papbouv

It sounds like you were lucky with her. Yes thank goodness she is ok. How scary. My Dad is gone now (although I still worry about pills when we go over there) but my step mom puts out rat poison and slug bait so I'm pretty much a basket case at her house and Hallie doesn't get to have much floor time.

I'm so thankful she is doing okay!   Thanks for keeping us posted on how Patches is doing.

Almost 20 years ago when I used to babysit Max-angel (original owners and pre-Rudy), I was on a prescription of Prozac for an intestinal condition (that was when they prescribed Prozac for everything).   One night while I was showering, Max got into my duffle bag, found the Prozac, opened the cap and began munching out.   I totally freaked out.  I don't know if he ingested any.  I tried to get him to vomit, but nothing came out.   I figured I had killed him.   Nothing happened to him, though, and Max ended up living over 17 1/2 years, so obviously, there weren't any long term effects either.

Not too many years later, they began prescribing Prozac for dogs.   I could then take pride that although it was inadvertent.  Max was the first dog to ever take Prozac!

It turned out the Prozac didn't do anything for the intestinal condition and actually made me lose weight until I was only 109 pounds (I was normally about 120 back then...about 150 now),  A change of doctors and medication got me back on the right track.
