While I was gone to work the little goat dog got into the bathroom and ate and entire chicken carcas.  I'd deboned a cooked chicken and the bones and skin were in the trash.  I  pu tit in the bathroom with the door closed (so I thought) but she got to it and ate it.  What should I do?

Oh no !!!!  She is going to be sick at her tummy for sure - I would give your vet a call and see what they recommend.  I am really not sure what to do.........

Off subject - I just noticed your signature on your profile.....are you getting another doglet??????

SHe has been on a very restricted diet.  It seems as though she is going out of her way to make herself sick though.  Her vet is closed now (of course) and I"m sure that's why I just discovered it.  She always seems sto wait until  the weekend or the office is closed to do something!

About my sig, I may be getting Cajsa's littermate from my grandparents.  They are getting to the point where they can't take care of her very easily so I'm going to take her when that happens.  I'm not sure when it wil be, but I figure by Christmas at the latest from how they are talking.

I would just watch her very closely in the next few hours and check her stool for any blood.  I would be concerned with any tearing if the bones didn't get chewed up very well.  Bless your heart- this is all you need !

Am I completly out of it - or is Cajsa's littermate Gretchen??????  Or am I thinking of someone else?????

Her little tummy is hard as a rock.  She's not pooed that I can tell anyway.  The chicken had been cooked all day in the crockpot so they were pretty soft I guess, at least as bones go.  I'm really hoping this isn't bad.  She is so close to me just locking her up during the day.  I really am getting tired of dealing with her doing this.  I get scared for her and then spend tons of money tha tI don't have to spare to make sure she's OK. It's just frustrating.

nope, you're right.  They are littermates.

Oh dear!

I'd keep a careful eye on her.  If you see blood in the stool or she starts vomiting, I'd take her to the ER vet.  Otherwise, I'd call your regular vet in the morning.

Hope she is okay!

Should I induce vomiting?  I just don't know although I haven't done that because I was afraid it'd make the situation worse. (a bone poking on the way back up being the first thing)

I'm not going to give her dinner.  I do know that.  Sorry I was so short in my previous post.  I just don't know how to keep her out of things sometimes.

I wouldn't induce vomiting....I think it would pass more easily out the other end, plus you don't know how long ago she ate it.....

That;s true.  I just wish I could get it out of her without it hurting her.

Dogs are by nature scavengers.  I am sure Cajsa isn't the first dog to eat a chicken carcass.  I'd just watch her closely.  She should be fine.

April

She is also supposed to not get anything but her dogfood (which has hydrolyzed proteins in it) for 6-10 weeks.  That's not going to happen now.  I just don't know how to get her "cleaned out" so we can begin to see what she's allergic to.

April,

Is there a relief vet or emergency vet that you could call? I am just concerned about the bones and what that will do to her intestines!

When Liily ate cooked chicken bones, I called the vet and she said to feed her a piece or two of bread in the hopes the bread would coat the bones in passing.  I watched her stool for a few days looking for blood, but luckily, there was none and we made in thru without incident.  Not knowing how long ago Cajsa ate the chicken carcas, I don't know if the bread thing would help.  I hope she doen't have any problems from this with all the other stomach issues she has had.   :dontknow:

Thanks for all your advice and support!  I was just very frustrated and scared about it last night so I wasn't exactly thinking very well.  (sleep deprivation will do that - Elf is teething!)

Cajsa still has a full tummy I think, but she did poo a little this morning as I was leaving.  I didn't give her any breakfast though I did give her plenty of fresh water.  Maybe if she drinks enough it'll help things move along?  I really don't know how long ago she ate itexcept it was after 10 am and before 6pm.  That leaves an 8 hour window so Cajsa is the only one who knows and she's not telling!  I just hope she is OK today since I couldn't get off work to stay home with her.

I'm glad Cajsa is doing "ok" today.  They are a constant worry about what they can get into.  After almost 11 years of living together, you would think I would learn.  In the past 2 weeks I have twice left my gig back unzipped and Clifford has helped himself to a bag of Ricola throat lozenges (non-medicated) and yesterday a pack of gum.  No wonder his breath has been sweeter lately.

David will be home this afternoon so he'll get to have a good look at her.  I'm hoping she's cleaned out by then though.  I really don't want a stuffed "Brat" for too long.

Hope the bat girl has pooped big time by the time dad gets there.  If she hasn't, you might call the vet and ask them what the best thing to give her would be, to get her moving.  Might try walking her too to get things moving.  Let us know !!!

HA!!!  When Clifford was a couple years old, I used to take him with me when I played in a Friday night tennis league.  The courts were all surrounded by grass and on the grounds of the high school.  No matter how hard I looked to clear the area where I clipped his 20 ft lead, he would always find some gum that the school kids had spit out.  I'd look over at him and he would be chewing and chewing and chewing.....

Mike, I just read your signature lline and almost fell off my chair, laughing so hard.  I have to say I have not had that experience yet.  I have had some similar though.  I don't think any of my gang has ever gotten any chewing gum.  That is too funny!  :sign10:

Cajsa seems to have passed most of her trouble.  :)  She did have several huge poops while I was gone and then last night so that's a good thing I think.  They are starting to get back to normal instead of hard and white.  (I assume she was passing the bones.)  I wasn't able to give her anything except her special hypo-allergenic dogfood (I know like it really matters so much after eating that much!)

Anyway, she's feeling a little cranky today, but otherwise good.

They are such little goats....Thank goodness she seems ok!  At least it didn't seem to make her sick!  Chicken will agree with her, just without the bones!  LOL  She was lucky, gotta love her!  Good luck!
