Dee Dee and Hallie

My stomach has gotten much worse and now the Dr is thinking it is something called gastroparesis...a very nasty thing that is hard to treat and usually doesn't go away.  It's like having the flu 24/7 week after week it gets real old after a while. I'm mainly only able to drink liquids now, they are doing a nuclear gastric emptying study tomorrow morning at the hospital, I'm pretty worried about the results and could use some prayers and rays. Has anyone heard of anyone with gastroparesis? It's where something gets damaged in your stomach and it stops working so anything you swallow just sits there and makes you sick and unable to eat much. I had never heard of such a thing before this...it is common in diabetics but over a third who get it there is no explanation for it, it just hits out of the blue.

Dee Dee, I'm so sorry you aren't any  better. I haven't heard of this, but hope this isn't the case. Maybe the test will show what is wrong and it will be something easy to treat. Please let us know as soon as you find out the results. I'll be saying some prayers for you today.

Thanks you guys, I just got back the hardest part of the test was being away from Hallie for 2 hours! It took 90 min, and the tech of course isn't allowed to tell me anything about what he thinks so will have to wait for the Dr to get the results and call, hopefully tomorrow. All you have to do is eat oatmeal with radioactive dye in it and lay in the machine that takes pictures that tracks how fast (or slow) your stomach empties. It is supposed to be a certain percent empty after a certain amount of time, etc.

Cheryl there isn't a lot they can do to treat it, they can try certain things like reglan, etc but they can have bad side effects and you aren't supposed to take them for very long. My Dr said he wants me to take the reglan regardless of the results of this test today to see if it will help so I will do that tomorrow I guess. We don't know yet for sure if this is gastroparesis, I'm hoping not, I think the next guess would be functional dyspepsia. Another one they don't have much treatment for but it would just be nice to know for sure what this thing is!

Yes Hallie is being a very good nurse.  She likes that Mom is laying around more, gives her more opportunities to drape herself across me for her naps!  :thumb:

Dee Dee and Hallie

Thank you tpoof, I just looked up Matthew 6:25, talk about a fitting verse! I bookmarked that.

Thank you too Papbouv you are right about Hallie, 2 years ago when I was doubled over in pain and had to go to the ER at 3 in the morning I was trying to get her settled and me out to the car, poor Hallie was so worried about what was going in she would run over, turn around and sit on my feet like she was trying to pin me down. I have never seen her do that before or since it still breaks my heart to think about it. So I think you are right on that she tries to pin me down when she can.
LOL yeah I think Buddy might have to be a next to your lap kind of pup, at 90 lbs!!! I love dobies I'll bet he's a sweetheart.

We're sending prayers and rays. Matthew 6:25 - yeah that's been one that helped get me through some really tough times as well. It's really an enormous stress to keep having tests and still no diagnosis. I went through about 18 months of various unpleasant abdominal problems and had test after test until I found out by accident that my symptoms were caused by aspartame.  If you use anything with this artificial sweetener in it, cut it out of your diet for a while and see what happens. Read this web site - http://www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-side-effects.html - just one of many that is pretty scary.

Oh geez, DD, I didn't know that things have gotten so bad.  I will be praying hard for good test results for you, or at least that the docs can tell what it is and fix it.

Barb

DD - girl - I hate to hear this.  Sending rays and prayers in full force that they are able to find something AND treat it.  Please keep us posted - we need you beddeh.   :comfort:

That is scary Rich. I don't trust those artificial sweeteners either. Thank goodness you figured it out (EIGHTEEN months...without a diagnosis? It's been 5 for me and that seems like a lifetime). I did eat asparame and artificial sweeteners a bit in the past but haven't for quite a long time, I have only been able to get down liquids like ensure and juices (without the AS) for a few weeks now and when I can eat solids it's only been baked potato, lean ground turkey, scrambled eggs or toast, sometimes yogurt. (or oatmeal with radioactive dye...heh). I am guessing my diet didn't have too much to do with this, it is suspicious timing that this is one of a few other things that cropped up after stressing out so much over Hallie at the beginning of the year, it may not have caused this but I'll bet it was the last straw in something that was lurking.

Thanks Patty and Barb hopefully will hear something today.

I missed out on this one yesterday!!    I really hope your test results come back today.  On one hand it would be great to finally have  diagnosis, but on the other hand I  would hate for it to be either one of those things.   I'm so sorry and wish I could do something to help.   We're praying for you and hope that you get to feeling better soon!!

Sending some mega doxie rays from New Jersey plus the Gang is sending you some slurpy kisses.  We sure hope you get a diagnosis soon.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.

good thing they caught the aspartame illness when they did Rich, that was a small miracle, I'm sure their are other foods that are risky also,,, these days its a gamble it seems....
shame really
DeeDee, your diet sounds pretty good, I do think you are on to something with the stress of Hallie that you went thru... sometimes that stress/worry can create symptoms that can aggravate your other brain/computer the GI system, the doctors told me that it can create a round about illness where worry brings stomach problems that create more worry and more problems.... not good....soooo..
hence passage from the Scriptures  :thumb:
and hence the suggestion to take a "CHILL PILL"  and try to relax

I have a feeling the stress brought this on.  Are they sure its not an ulcer?  I stressed out big time this past summer after my neck ordeal, and drank a lot of SlimFast.  My stomach was so nervous, I felt sick constantly.  So I sympathize.  Bananas and other fruits like watermelon tasted good to me.

Don't know if they checked for this but my sister in law had a problem for years and they finally found out she is fructose intolerant.  High fructose corn syrup is in everything and fructose is in fruits so she really has limited what she eats.

Aw, DeeDee what a bummer!  Sheesh, I've used that word in two posts now.  :dontknow:  Prayer is with you from me.  I sure hope the doc finds what is wrong and can give you a treatment.  I'm so sorry.

MimisMomma

Dee Dee, I am pulling for you. I am sorry that your not getting any better. I was hoping that with all of the things going on with Hallie settled down and you knew she was OK that you would get better as well. I figured something was up when I hadn't heard anything from you in a while and that is when I sent out the card to you. Please keep us posted. We are all pulling for you.
I am a better person because I have my Mimi and Tuttle and now Carson!!!

Dee Dee and Hallie

The Doc didn't call yesterday and I know he would have if he had gotten the results so I'm sure they hadn't come in yet.

Quotethe doctors told me that it can create a round about illness where worry brings stomach problems that create more worry and more problems.... not good....soooo..

I can see that, it does become a vicious cycle especially when many times you don't know what is wrong. It just seems odd to me my stomach problem got it's worst a couple of months after Hallie was fine and I didn't have so much to worry about with her...all my other problems from worrying over her started at the time in January. But who knows how these things work!

It's for sure not an ulcer, one of the tests they did was an upper endoscopy so they looked at everything and it all looked fine. It's not ulcer symptoms or just feeling sick like when you are upset, your appetite turns off and it feels like someone overinflated a balloon in your stomach so there is no room for anything and sort of feels like you have a bad bug...it's hard to describe.

I have never heard of a fructose intolerance. I will look into that. That, and Rich's experience with aspartame, really shows how many things we eat can cause major problems. The challenge is trying to figure it out.

I was hoping the same Mel, once Hallie was well I figured I'd be too. I LOVED your card, I didn't know your Mother painted! That was awesome...I emailed you right after I got it did you not get it? I have it sitting right here it's just beautiful. Let me know if you didn't get it and I will try to find it and resend that was so nice of you.

This is actually the third day in a row where I've felt somewhat better! I don't know why...and certainly not at 100% but in comparison to the last couple of weeks particularly, it is a relief! Thanks for the continued rays and prayers maybe they are working!  :thumb:

I was hoping you would hear something yesterday, but at least you have a doctor that you know would have called you if he had heard something.
As for being able to eat-it seems the radioactive oatmeal has gotten you started eating again. Don't guess there's any chance of eating it all the time...

That's what my step mother said Teresa, LOL I told her I haven't been able to find "radioactive dye" flavored oatmeal at Safeway...

It would be nice to hear something (good!) tomorrow but if not I imagine it will be Monday.
