I'll post it here, and if it needs moved, that's fine.    Has anyone tried Dick Van Patten's food?  If so, what do you think of it???   It seems to be pretty good and I was thinking of switching Porky to it.  We can get it locally and it seems to better quality than any of our other choices.   We definately won't do Ol'Roy, Alpo, or Iams, etc....   any of the cheapo grocery store brands.

I've never tried it.  All six of the doxies I have owned have always been fed Purina One, and did very well on it.  Its also known for producing shiny coats.

The Gang is fed Natural Balance and they love it.  They have been eating it for a few years now.  I use the dry and the canned.  All of them have good coats and skin.  The boys gained too much weight so I have had to cut back on the amount they are fed.

Parker eats Royal Canine for Daschunds. He seems to enjoy it, but it is expensive. Good thing he's little.

I tried a couple of bags for Schatzi and Molly. It helped Molly's skin a little, and they both loved it, but I decided to give Wellness a try when I saw Petco had it. That has been the best so far for Molly and it is keeping both of the girls at a healthy weight. When we used the Natural Balance, we tried the Weight Management one. They also have several different allergy formulas, which may be great for Porky. I would definitely give it a try.

I've used Natural Balance, both the fish and sweet potato and the venison and brown rice. My crew (3 Dachshunds + 2 American Pit Bull Terriers) all did well on it. My groomer started carrying Wellness, so I switched to that because it was easier to get to her place than to the place I had to drive to get the NB.

Thanks everyone for your input!!  We were thinking of doing the fish and sweet potato for Porky since his allergies are a major issue.   Sounds like all of you who havetried it like it.   I have seen Wellness and thought it would be a GREAT food for Porky, but we can't get it here locally.   I'd rather buy locally than driving 2 hours or paying shipping.  All the companies I have found that ship the foods Porky can eat charge more for the shipping than his food would cost or the shipping equals the cost of his food.  If I bought in bulk, it would work well to ship it, but we'd never be able to finish all that food before it went bad.

My husband ended up bringing some of the Natural Balance home for Porky and so far its a hit!   We mixed it in with his old food to prevent tummy upset and Porky picked out all the new kibble and ate it first.   Bandit seemed quite interested in the bag once he got a sniff of it, also.

Porky was on Purina One Lamb and Rice before, but his skin was getting more dry.  I think because of all the grain in it.    :dontknow:   Our other two dogs eat Purina One and have had great results so Bandit and Jade will stay on it.

There is allot of Dog Foods on this site   http:www.dogfoodanalysis.com  if you type the name of the food in the web sites search area should take you to it or you might have to go though apage or two to find it. They really seem to be on the ball about most foods.Good Luck Papbouv

I haven't, I feed Solid Gold.  I believe his food is good, I just haven't seen it in the stores around here.

I was feeding Solid Gold (and loved it!), and just couldn't get to the natural food store in time last time I needed a bag, so I got the regular Natural Balance.  It's done nicely for their coat-all of them are a little bit softer-but they are all gaining weight like CRAZY.  And I only feed 1/3 cup a day (total!!!) to two of them and just barely over that to the third!  I can't wait to get through this bag, so I can go back to Solid Gold-and I'm going to have to do the low-cal for awhile too.

Ack!! I hope it doesn't make Porky gain a whole bunch of weight.  :doah:  How much do you think I should feed him per day??  He is 10 pounds right now and should be 8.5 to 9 pounds.   The bag says 1/2-1 cup of food per day so maybe I should do the half cup or should I try a little less??    Two of you have said your dogs got fat eating this food so now, I'm kinda concerned.   Let me know what you think about how much I should feed.

From the sounds of it I would split it into 2 (1/4 c) servings per day.  If it seems like it isn't enough then add a little at a time till you have the right amount.  My standards only get about 1 cup a day and they are 2 times the size of Porky at 26-27 lbs.
