As wouldn't be appropriate to ask this in Doxielady's thread I started this one.

How common is wheezing, snoring and other breathing issues?Simon has always wheezed and snored with no apparent discomfort all his 9yrs.Should I be concerned now that he's getting older?

If he has always wheezed them I wouldn't worry too much. I would ask your vet next time you go for a check up, and shots.

My Eddie snores all the time and sometimes it even wakes me up.  As for wheezing is it all the time or just certain times?  Sam Angel and Eddie both have slight wheezes in the fall when things start to dry up and the leaves fall, but most of the time they are OK.

Don't know if that helps any.

My two both snore, and even more so when they are really tired.  I haven't noticed any wheezing though.  I too would advise you to ask your vet the next time Simon needs shots, etc.

Thanks all.

The more tired Simon is the more he snores and/or wheezes. He's actually due for rabies next week,I'll ask the vet while there.

Porky started his wheezing at 6 months.  I'm not really sure how common the wheezing is, but I would definately have Simon checked out.    I wouldn't have minded you attaching this to my post either, it does kind of fit in with the allergies stuff.   Hope everything goes well when you take Simon to the vet!   We'll be thinking of you.

Simon goes for rabies tomorrow.

Norman

Simon got his rabies and kennel cough boosters today.

I asked about the wheezing/snoring and the vet having seen Simon for close to 8yrs was well aware of him and said it wasn't a concern. :thumb:

In an aside I noticed Simon actually was excited when we got to the vet's office. He ate it up...what a ham! :2funny:

I am glad that Simon's wheezing is not a concern.  My three hate going to the Vet.  They all HATE the slick tile floors!!!!

Poor fella upchucked around 3am this morning, but he was fine afterwards.I'm wondering if the Frontline or Heartgard he received yesterday afternoon might've made him feel ill :dontknow:

I did notice just now he's been into nawing on the fallen acorns/leaves/crabgrass.Again  :dontknow:

Merion

I can't remember where I saw it but I think acorns are poisonous to dogs.

yes Merion is right... do NOT let Simon eat acorns, they are toxic to dogs, something..... tannic acid, (I think) causes kidney damage, but it takes a fair amount I think. Same goes for oak leaves, I've read. Might not hurt to call the vets office to see what they say.  Delilah's brother was adopted by someone we know and sadly he died from eating acorns.  It was something he did a lot and the family didn't know any better (we did't either but fortunately thats one thing Delilah hasn't tried to eat).
Hugs to Mr Simon & hope he feels better soon.
