Cali is VERY gentle and only nibbles at her food. She's not a glutten about anything-except rawhides! Just curious because I hear everyone say how overweight or what pigs their Dachsie's are. Cali is SO good for kids because she is so gentle with her mouth. As a matter of fact, she's NEVER bitten-not even when teething (she licks instead!  :thumb: ) Anyone else? Oh-and hubby calls her a Titty Baby  :binkybaby: ....she's just loyal to her mama!!!

You are lucky I think! I know there are some doxies who don't eat everything in sight, but some of those are overweight and are just full all the time! I have rarely seen a healthy young good weight doxie who didn't breath and dream of eating. Hallie is not voracious and she will turn her nose up at a (very) few things but she seems to think about food a lot and will vaccuum wherever she goes. Like Cali she also is very gentle with her mouth and has never bitten or growled, and takes food very carefully from you.

Cali is such a doll.

Did you lose your Gizmo kitty just this last Monday????

Parker is a very gentle diner. He prefers toys to yummies, and often doesn't even finish his food. Needless to say he is very slim.
We refer to Parker as a gentle old soul even though he is not even two.

Is Parker neutered? I am just curious because often an intact male will not have as good an appetite as a neutered one. I could not get my Great Dane, Fred, to eat much, I didn't get him neutered until he was about a year and a half old because we had to finish in the breed ring first, I remember when I brought him home from his neutering he was still groggy from the anesthesia but he wanted food and from that moment on he was a great eater!

How did you know Gizzy's name was actually Gizmo? Nobody knows that! I am just floored that you called her that because that was her name until I started calling her "Gizzy" and yes, I had her put down Monday, she was 13-years-old and I had her since 8-weeks old. She had blood in her stools from time to time over the past several years among other health issues, so when I found bloody poo all over the house, I just assumed it was her, took her to the vet and had her put down. Came home, found MORE bloody stools and went into complete distress. What had I just done??? Well, turns out it was Cali, Gizzy just helped me find out Cali was sick...hard to explain.
Anyhow, Cali is doing 1,000 times better and neither of my dogs vacuum!!! I think I need a Beagle...for some odd reason, I associate Beagles with crumb hunting....it's a mystery to me why  :idiot: . LOL  Cali is a Bearded, ShortLegged Dolly  :2funny: She lets the kids to whatever they want to her-of course I make sure they don't mistreat her...and that li'l stinker! I thought she didn't have a single mean bone in her body...well....I found out, Little Miss Bearded DollyvCAN, in fact, hold her own when she feels her mama may be in harms way! She amazes me....she's awesome!!! And I could go on and on and on..............well, I could!!! Oh-she weighs 11 lbs. 5 oz. Just perfect snuggle size-and my gosh, she LOVES to snuggle! Makes my heart  happy  :love4: :love4: :love4: :love4:.

Porky lives to eat.  His food is measured out each day (by his controlling mama)  so he doesn't get overweight.   I think you are very lucky, but be careful, when Porky was younger he didn't give a lick about food (too busy palying!), now he will eat until we make him stop.    Porky is a gentle eater though, he only scarfs when he thinks one of the other dogs is going to steal it from him.   Porky has a routine where he grabs a piece of kibble, walks to the carpet, chews it, and goes back for more.  If you put his food dish on the carpet he'll grab and piece and go to the wood floor.   :dontknow:  Its just silly!   :2funny:

That's really funny. Cali just turned 1 and because she is a LH/Wire, she has white wires throughout her back undercoat, so people think she's like 10-11 YEARS old v.s. MONTHS because of how laid back & mellow she is. The breeder I got her from knew I can't handle a high-strung dog, said Cali was really relaxed & laid back & by golly, she is! Perrrrect match!!!  :hello2: I'd let her pick my pup again, anytime! Cali too will nibble at her food-wants snuggles rather than food! OH-and-Cali is the 1st dog I ever had that LOVES toys!!! She raids the shopping bags when I get home...it's like she's thinking "I know she brings me goodies in these bags!" and is so snoopy!!! I  it! She's so unique-like me! She's my 1st Dacshie, btw...and I'd love a 1/2 dozen more!!!

Oh no no no-Cali is EXACTLY the same way! She will not eat over her dish-ever!!! I thought because she had 4 brothers, she had to fight (carry away) food in order to get any, but she still does it! And I thought she was weird?!  :idiot: LOL

I am so sorry! That is the hardest thing we ever have to do. She was a beautiful girl...and I don't know why I called her Gizmo. I thought maybe it had said Gizmo on her photo on your gallery page (I had gone in to see the adorable pics of Cali girl!!!) but I just checked and it says Gizzy there too. I'll bet your heart did drop when you saw it wasn't Gizzy's stools, but I'm betting she had other health problems too? I lost my last kitty, Sophie at the age of 20, a vet tech once told me that calicos can live longer than other cats sometimes. I probably let her go too long...

That's funny about the kibble, my Dad's doxie, Jody, also would take a kibble from her bowl over to the carpet to eat it. Funny to hear that Porky and Cali do the same. Hallie would never do that, she will even bark with food in her mouth and her head in the dish if the mailman comes to the door while she's eating but she doesn't raise her head.

Cali weighs about the same as Hallie. If I remember right, Porky is smaller? Cali sounds like she has a very similar temperament as Hallie does.

Since the 1st time we moved, 9+ years ago, Gizzy would always be bald underneath. I guess she would get so stressed out, she's remove all of her hair-from her belly & under her legs. Took her to the vet, they found no reason, so we just let her be. She seemed healthy & happy, so why bother. Anyhow-I'm still just stunned you called her Gizmo. I mean, it's like amazing, indescribeable (really hard to explain how I feel-just floored!!!) My mom's 2 cats lived to be 18 & 20...and yes, overdue. Anyhoo............I really should go to bed, but I just got here!!! So little time, so many ICONS!!!

Glad I returned....maybe it's a sign the chaos will lessen..........or NOT! I have more pics of Cali....just not sharing until her Star Day. Sorry!!!  :nono:

My brother's dachshund Bandit does it too.  Maybe they just like to eat and run???   :dontknow:   Bandit likes to hide his food though, not just take it away to eat it.   I'll explain why on his Star of the Day.

Parker was neutered at about 6 weeks by the breeder (acutally a vet). All the dogs leave her kennel fixed unless you express intent that you want a "breeding" dog. I guess she wanted to ensure that nobody that purchased him  used him for profit. I know a contract is usually signed, but it's been her experience that people breed anyways, and sell the pups unregistered out of the paper.
We didn't get Parker until he was about 8 months, and his handler informed us prior to us purchasing him that he was a "very gentle little dearie". She's right. He is a timid observer, and doesn't socialize except with his own breed at the little dog park.
What was most disturbing when we got him was how little he missed his mother, and the breeder. He attached himself to me immediately. I thought that was a little odd, as I was told he was very well socialized. Also, he was, and still is a dog that's very comfortable sleeping is feces. We clean his pen immediately, but sometimes we are at work, and come home to a mess. His bedding is washed daily.
We have been working with him, and he's coming along. He is on a dog food that he enjoys, but I think he will always have a very gentle nature - which suits me just fine.

Simon gets a 1/3 cup of "lite" dry in the morning and another in the afternoon for the same reason doxielady mentioned, got to keep him at a healthy weight. If you blink you've missed him eat.

Rawhides are gone in minutes too.Toys are in another realm altogether.

I will say this:Simon never begs or whines when it comes to food whether its his or we(Jane and I) are having supper.
