for the smaller doxies.  I wasn't real sure where to post this so I just posted it here.   :dontknow: If it needs moved to another section, feel free to do so.

Now, onto to the sweaters.....   When Porky was so tiny last winter when he was sick, (and when he was a puppy), I came up with an idea to make my own sweater for him.  I think it cost me about $5 to make and took about 15 minutes of my time.

Here's what you need to make it:  1 pair of Men's wool socks, (pick a color you like or one with stripes, etc...)   Yes, you need 2 just in case you mess up one.
                                                  a pair of scissors
a needle and thread, (whatever color you want.

Step One:  Measure how long your baby is from neck to where you want the sweater to end.   (For example Porky is 12 inches long (neck to tail) so we got a Large wool sock.)   His sweater ends about 2-3 inches from his butt.

Step Two:  Bring the socks home and measure the length from the neck of your baby to their chest bone. ( or just guess like I did)   Then measure the from the heel of the sock to the toe, and mark off the length of the neck to chest bone.  Use the heel part of the sock as your starting point.  The heel of the sock will fit over the chest bone of your doxie.  (especially if they have a very prominent chest bone!)

Step Three: Using the mark you made on the sock as a guide, cut off the toe of the sock.

Step Four:   Measure the how far from the chest bone, each of the front legs on your dog are.    Mark the spot on the sock with a red or black marker.

Step Five:  Measure how big around your baby's legs are.   then draw a circle around the x and cut out the leg holes.

Step Six:   Sew around the edges where you cut to prevent the fabric from fraying.  It doesn't have to be fancy.

Step Seven: Try it on.

Unfortunately this won't work for the standards, unless you can find a giant sock somewhere.   :dontknow:   I'm sure this pattern won't for many pups, but I had such a hard time finding sweaters to fit Porky when he was little, so if it helps even one pup, we'll be happy.   :apls: We just had to share this because it really is easy.  To be honest, I didn't even measure, I just "eyeballed" it and it came out fitting perfect!    Good Luck!   I'm thinking this pattern might work for Romeo or Guinness since they are both smaller.

What a great idea Amorette!!  I wish my two were little enough to wear them.....I'm sure your sweaters will help at least 1 or 2 pups here :apls: :apls:

That sounds similar to what I did with Gretchen and Cajsa when they were pups.  I got a pair of old sweat pants and cut them off at the knee.  The ankle cuff was the hole for the head then I cut two leg holes for the front feet to come out.  I the length of the pup may be shorter (or longer) than knee length so that can be adjusted as needed too.  It doesn't always look the most stylish since I didn't actually stitch anything, but I suppose you could make it fancier if you wanted.  Cajsa can still wear hers since her chest didn't really get much bigger and the sweats will stretch, but poor Gretchen is too deep chested to fit comfortably.

Um... :2funny:   i don't have a picture , since Porky ate his!   :2funny:     I should make a new one next weekend and post the picture.  Although, my "portly" little boy probably won't fit in it anymore.   Feel free to ask any questions since my directions were kind of complicated.   Sorry, I tried to explain it better!

I used a sweat shirt sleeve. The cuff was the neck and I cut holes for the front legs and cut the rest of the sleeve to fit the pupper - it worked well and lasted a long time. Of course we lived in South Texas at the time, so there wasn't really much of a winter...

Hey Parker,
Don't worry about looking like an idiot in dis sweater.  My mama made me one and it looked like one of dose fancy college boy sweaters.  Da onwy fing i was missing to complete dat "hot" look was some glasses.  Da girls really liked me in my blue sweater.
